Wasn't there some kind of cultural rivalry between Boston and Los Angeles during the 80s?

I thought the rivalry in the 60s was more because they were the perennial champs at that time and we would always lose in the finals waiting to get our first after moving to los angeles from MPLS. The 80s was more highlighted with the Bird vs Magic rivalry than the actual Boston LA thing.

Lakers chanting "MVP MVP" that's reality

thats the diffrence between their fans and ours

The story behind "Beat LA" is one of the great moments in the Celtics/Lakers. With 26 seconds to go in Game 7 of the 1982 Eastern Conference finals at the old Garden, the Pistons had clinched a berth in the NBA Finals. The Celtics fans showing there hate for the Lakers (despite the fact the Lakers to that point had never defeated the C's in the Finals) began chanting "Beat LA!" urging the Pistons to defeat the Lakers.

That is how great the Rivalry was.
