Chris Paul's Contract is that good news for laker fans?

Post#1 » by LakerFanSince84 » Fri Jul 4, 2008 8:45 am

I think that Mitch Kupchak has every bit of leverage in the contract negotiation with Andrew Bynum. He would be very stupid to offer Bynum Max Money, don't get me wrong Bynum will be the most polished big man in 2 or 3 years from now, but he hasn't proven his worth at this point.

Chris Paul just signed a 4 year extension for the amount of $68 million dollars. Now if the runner-up for the MVP trophy Deserves get a max deal, but why should Bynum even get close to the amount that Chris Paul is to receive (per 4 years). Bynum should receive a 5 year $50-55 million dollar contract, period. He is a big-man that has the ability to change the game, the league is going smaller....but I think that's fair value for what Bynum had shown up until the injury.

I just hope the perimeter defense is not solely relying on Bynum returning as the answer. The truth is is the team doesn't defend better, Bynum will be in foul trouble. Phil Jackson should get much more blame than he received, NO ONE ON THAT TEAM THIS PAST YEAR TOOK CHARGES! COOK was the ONLY Player that would do it, and he was traded early in the year.

Chris Paul did get a max-contract. He just got it for 4 years and not 5 or 6.

Ahh nice add Dowjones...Personally I think Mitch should hire a thug crew to beat the shi* outta Andrew's agent like they did to Winthrorp in Trading Places.

lol.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but that statement is pretty much as wrong as can be.

You know who lead the league in drawing offensive fouls this year? Thats right, he was on this Laker team this year, and his name wasnt Brian Cook.

I like to call him Derek Fisher.

The man drew 54 offensive fouls this season. That is exactly 9x as many offensive fouls as Brian Cook drew all season. To add to that, Lamar Odom (15), Turiaf (15), Walton (13), Sasha (12), Bryant (8), and Kwame (7) all took more charges than mr Cook.

Brian Cook actually took just as many Charges as Jordan Farmar did this season. Both took exactly 6 charges.
Cook only drew SIX offensive fouls this year.

isnt CPs contract over 3 years with a possible 4th year option? if so cp has a 3 year 68 mil contract and with a 4th year it would likely be around 90 mil.

I am one of the few that's not sold on the Hornets maintaining the same dominance. Their offense is entirely based on CP3's overdribbing and West wedging through double teams, and their defense is mostly about not drawing fouls while giving up a good percentage on the field. They don't seem to bother addressing their depth this offseason, and this could be a critical mistake for them when they only have Wells and Wright as regular contributors, with Pargo's status undecided. I would choose either Houston or the Mavs(if Carlisie is the answer) to overtake the Hornets. Spurs could as well if Maggette joins them.

Still, the OP got a point. It should mitigate Bynum's (or rather his agent's) salary demands: to think that player who was 2nd in MVP voting has got total extension lower than 'Drew's representatives demand! So let's be hopeful about this.

Nope, it's 68 million for 4 years. CP3's too young to receive 20 mil a year like some veterans do: the CBA differentiates salary scale for older and younger players.
