If I was Phil I would force him to have it.

Bottom line, Kobe wouldn't play if he couldn't.

Is everyone forgetting that the body itself heals injuries? Maybe if he has surgery it might mess up his shot, since it's on his finger. Letting it heal on it's own is probably best anyway. Unless he can't play at all then I agree with his decision.

I don't know... I trust his opinion but...

Am I the only one that thinks Kobe's shot has been a bit off since the injury? I think we could float for a couple of the early weeks of the season, if he'd get the surgery now... I just want that money 3pt shot back after the ASB...

I guess everyone knows what their doing but to me Kobe just hasn't quite been Kobe since he got hurt....

Wow, didn't see that one coming. I'm glad Kobe doesn't want to miss any time from the regular season. I think he realizes how important Home court advantage was in the playoffs and that the only series we didn't have HCA was the one we lost. Every game is going to matter next year. It's going to be hard to compete with Boston and Detroit record wise, seeing that they play in the East. But we do have a good enough squad to make a run at the best record in the League even though we're in the much harder Western Conference. I think Kobe realizes it and this is his main objective. Which in my book. .....
is AWESOME 8-)

hmm i think he should get the surgery. if he damages any further he'll just have to end up getting it fixed during the season...

I'm sure Sed is the guy to talk to, but while body does heal itself we're talking about a severed ligament. The body's version of fixing it will be to retract the ligament farther away from where it was attached and in this case the healing actually makes things worse as there will have to be now a lengthening and reattachment as apposed to a simple attachment.

I think this is the correct decision personally. As long as Kobe keeps taping that finger up, it's not going to get worse, and he still played at an incredible level after the injury last season. We can't really afford losing any time we can use to get this roster to gel together.

You mean like that scene in Black Hawk Down when that kid gets shot in the leg and the medic tries to find and clamp the retreating artery?

Kobe knows his body best. If he says he's fine the way he is, he's fine the way he is. His pinky condition is obviously not a big deal to him. It shouldn't be to us, either.

Hell, I played countless soccer games with fractured ribs, broken wrists etc. Had I been a superstar, it would have been blown up in the media and fans would worry about the long term, say I should have surgery or recover etc. If I felt OK to play and the "meds" cleared me, I'd play and I'd be just fine.

If there is no risk of worsening the injury by letting it be, why miss part of the season?
