1. The Lakers always have a big time player. Usually multiple big time players. With big time players comes big time plays. With big time plays comes big time fun! Hands down the Lakers have been the most entertaining basketball club for decades.

2. Magic Johnson. The greatest basketball talent of all time...in my opinion. No look pass. Silly ball fakes. Clutch shots. Made his teammates better. Heck even Larry Bird said Johnson made him a better player. Dude wasn't even on his team haha. There are winners and then there are champions. Magic is a champion to the core.

3. The success. The back to backs and three peats. Dynasty status. Record breaking playoff runs, points per game, winning streaks. There are so many special moments as a laker fan you need only look across the hall at the clippers to see what other fans have to put up with.

4. The hard times (the few we've had.) This current rebuilding time has been amongst my most loved time as a fan. Watching players grow up. Kobe doing his best to compensate for roster holes...81 point game anyone? Nearly beating the favored Suns in 7 with what might be the worst supporting cast in NBA history. Holding out hope for what Bynum can be. Sasha making shots...finally. Fisher is back. Kwame out Pau in. Dominate second half. Finals loss...

1. Left my home country, didn't have a sports team to root for during the first seven years here.
2. A buddy of mine re-introduced me to the Lakers and Chic Hearn early in the 1999-2000 season, I've been a total fanatic ever since. Haven't missed a game the last three seasons.
3. Kareem and Magic in the eighties. I mean, what unbiased foreign person could possibly root for the ugly green when there was showtime Magic, Cooper, Worthy and Kareem in shiny P&G on the other side of the ball?
4. Even their jersey colors are similar to my national team's colors. How could I resist becoming a die hard fan with such a perfect setup?
5. Rooting for the local home team is what I always did. When LA became my home town and I finally discovered the Lakers, and given that the sports fan in me had been starved for seven years, it finally lead me to sign up to join an internet fan forum.

5. Something i can't explain. I didn't become a Lakers fan because of these reasons, not at all ! It just happened by itself, really ! I became LA Lakers fan by reading newspapers, without even watching a single game ! I didn't know about Magic, KAJ, West and the whole LA Lakers history when i realized that i love this team ! If you asked me then what made me to love this team, i'd say : "I don't know !" Now i know ! It's like you fall in love at the first sight, and then you realize that you made the right choice, as i do know ! I realize how powerful this team is, how great, what kind of players have played for this franchise, its amazing history ! And you know, it feels SO GREAT !

1. Magic.

I clearly remeber sitting in my aunt's living room watching the 1979 NCAA Championship. CBS talking about this kid that could not stop smiling on the court that was going up against Larry Bird, the nation's best player. Instantly I was drawn to the way he played and the fact that he had a unique look, sporting a goatee. Coincidentally, I started playing alot of hoops at that age and most of my friends who were about 2-3 yrs older were fans of Dr J and the Sixers. Later I learned that the Lakers had drafted Magic. In those days, basketball was shown only once a week and it seemed that games rotated between Celtics, Sixers and Lakers. And I remember the first time I saw the Lakers play at the Forum on the gold floor - that's all it took, and my loyalty the P&G was born.

2. Showtime.

Run and gun style that was a joy to watch. The 15-4, 13-4, 12-2 runs... that in an instant dispatched opponents.

3. The assist.

Having Ervin "Magic" Johnson as my role model growing up, I patterned my game after him. I am 6' and played poing guard in high school (wore 32) despite having guys quicker and with better handles than myself. But because of Magic, I knew how to play the game the right way and the bottom line was winning. There is no better feeling than setting up a guy for an easy deuce. It's the beauty of the game.

4. The Logo.

Jerry West is the damn logo of the league. Enough said.

5. God is Laker fan.

He has to be... how else do you explain the Lakers managing to land sign so many great players? This is the reason we have managed to stay competative and relative over the years. West, Baylor, Wilt, Kareem, Magic, Worthy, Shaq, Kobe, Gasol just to name a few?? On the other hand the C's had to wait a loooong time to get another ring and they on the other hand, have had bad luck... Bird's back, Len Bias, Reggie Lewis?

No matter what happens, eventually (and typically sooner rather than later) we find a way to sign an impact player that turns our franchise around. And every now and then we manage to win the whole freaking thing.

Magic Johnson was the first reason I became a laker fan. But to be honest I had no choice. My parents named me after a laker (no lie). Kurt Rambis was their favorite player so they named me after him. I actually met him and told him that as I got his autograph. My parents as is my whole family are die hard laker fans. They always tell me that if I was a girl, they would of named me Gail after their other favorite player "Gail Goodrich". But growing up, Magic was and is my favorite player of all time.
