Jack Haley or Norm Nixon??

Post#1 » by Chubby Chaser » Wed Oct 8, 2008 7:22 am

Who do you guys prefer for pre game and post game shows? Jack Haley? Or Norm Nixon? IMO even though I was mad at Jack for his pre reporting of the Boozer trade and what not, I still liked him as an announcer before and after the game. Because when he did it, he came across as a fan first, then a reporter second. He was so much more livelier and you could tell that he was really into the game. He felt every loss and was so entrenched in each game. Norm Nixon just sits there cheesing with that stupid smirk and monotonous voice. It's unbearable at times. I liked when they had that 3 person post game from staples. They should bring him back. What do you guys think?

tough call? no contest.

another thing..kcal 9 did the exact same thing. they let alan massengale go who was just as exciting as haley. Jim hill is worthless. this guy thinks he's a legend an acts all holy almighty with his interviews, i can't stand that person. his voice is boring there's nothing unique about it, it sounds almost like worthy's. f jim hill and norm nixon.

This should be a slaughter!!! common man HALEY all the way! That guy actually felt the people. He had some intensity and wasnt scared to tell it how it is. If somebody sucked, he went on and said that person suck'd like no other! ...Not that Nixon is a bad guy but...he's boring!! BOOOOOOORRRRIIIINNNNGGGG!!!

how in god's green earth does norm nixon still have a job? he was literally high/drunk during broadcasts and couldnt even commentate on a simple highlight reel. He makes the pre/halftime/post game show unbearable to watch.

What happened to jack anyway? did he get fired? If he did i hope he makes a comeback like Steve psycho lyons

Neither. I can't stand Haley's kiss-ass, slimey character. Norm Nixon isn't the brightest of TV personalities, either.

Why don't they steal Michael Cooper away from Rob Fuk-u-zaki — the worst host on television?

Too kind, EE.

WOW. This thread is shocking. There must be a ton of younger Real GM members.

Norm Nixon is a multiple NBA Champion and LAL, a multiple All Star, and you prefer Jack Haley?

"Haley is perhaps best remembered for his unusual contributions to the 1995-96 Bulls team which won a league-record 72 games and the NBA Championship. Haley only played in one game during the regular season and did not participate in the playoffs. He was kept on the roster for the entire year because of his friendship with the enigmatic Dennis Rodman, who rarely spoke to anyone else on the team (the two had become friends during their tenure with San Antonio). Team management felt that someone had to keep the unpredictable forward out of trouble, and Haley quickly earned a reputation as Rodman's "babysitter"."

Following his playing career, Haley became a television broadcaster for the Lakers, co hosting the Lakers Live pre game show with Bill Macdonald for Fox Sports Net West/Prime Ticket. Haley has also acted, appearing in the films Eddie and Rebound, as well as the music video for Aerosmith's "Love in an Elevator."" ??? He did?

I agree with EE and neither of those guys are any better than the other. Norm looks stoned and Haley is way too homeristic.

Nixon is obviously by far the better player. That's not in question. What is in question is who was the better broadcaster for the pre game and post game shows. I for one liked Haley's homerism and his fan input. People throw around "homer" as if it's such a bad thing. I don't mind it in pre or post game shows. That's where homerism should take place in my opinion. I don't normally like it when the actual in game announcers have a certain side that they 're obviously rooting for. That gets annoying if the announcers are complaining about every call in favor of one team. But for the pre and post games. I liked what haley had to bring. In that 3 person show, he was representing the basic fans views and vocalized what we all would probably be saying from our couches.

Letting Haley go was the biggest mistake they ever made. I used to watch the postgame reports and Haley's interviews with the players as they were walking into the arena. No more. Now I just tune in when the game starts, take a piss at halftime, then turn it off when the clock hits zeros. Haley was at least fun to make fun of if nothing else. You could tell that guy loved the Lakers through and through.

Norm is boring, can't speak well, looks nervous all the time, laughs at things that aren't even funny, and always holds that damn rolled up paper in his hand. So annoying. Get him out.

Chubby but the point is he's actually played basketball at the highest level and excelled, why would I want to listen to Haley who was in the NBA for one reason, his height. Norm Nixon is the better analyst.

Being better at playing basketball, and even MUCH better doesn't make you the better analyst. I don't think Chick Hearn was all that great of a ball player, but I would take him talking about a game over Michael Jordan any day of the week. Al Michaels, etc. TNT's halftime show isn't popular because they have incredible insight, but because they are entertaining (to go along with some insight). Magic is the better basketball player, but Chuck is more entertaining.

+1. Being a good basketball player doesn't necessarily translate into being a successful tv personality or sports show host. With TV broadcasting you either have "it", or you don't. And Norm Nixon definitely does not have that special "it" factor. The only thing he has is a flask in his coat pocket.
