Damn, this game is sweet. The gameplay is smooth and the closest basketball SIM I have ever played. Perhaps it needs to be a bit fine tuned with the sliders to find the perfect mix, but early on (outside a few bugs) the game itself is solid. The player movements are all "vinatage" and all the little things are what get you.... (from Kobe's fadeaway.. to Gasol tumbling to the ground.. to Sasha spaztic behavior when he hits a big shot...)
The online menu/servers however are HORRIFIC. This part of the game is not yet finished and I have to believe that 2K Sports launched despite the game not being a finished product just to keep NBA Live from being "first to market". If indeed they must patch the online game and things like:
- no lobbies (fundamentals of online sports, how can you take a step backwards 2K?)
- inability to see players stats/rankings/dnf from the lobby menu
- server unable to handle traffic for "team mode"
- inability to see if an opponent has a mic or not
- inability to chat in lobby
- be able to reject anyone wanting to join a created game
- all freezing from "ranked game" modes
- etc,....
If they fix all of the above, this game may will be the sickest ever. Period.
any Lakers faithful who want a run on PS3, feel free to add me >> bigdaddy812
peace.

The game looks great and the player animations are fantastic, but other than that not worth my 60. A lot of people are turning in 2k for live.

This is an excert from 2k community....
Removal of Ranked Lobbies…
"This year in thinking about how to handle ranked games and our Leaderboards we decided to make all Ranked games “blind”. Ranked games are meant to be highly competitive games in a tournament type setting. The point is to win to get to the top of the Leaderboard, period. If users can pick out there opponents that tournament setting is compromised. With blind Ranked matches people can’t find users who are less experienced and play them over and over again to move up the Leaderboard."

Duba,
I tried the Live demo and played it for 5 minutes. The players' physiques resembled stick figures and the gameplay itself was weak and far from a fun experience.
to each his own I guess.

I feel the same way about 2k9. the other 2k games used to be better than live, but with live 09 I think 2k9 is the bad one now :/ btw if anyone wants to play me in live 09 my gamer tag is skEwb35 feel free to add me, lets play!

Like I said 2K beat them on graphics for the 1st time ever, far from fun? 2k9 fanboy says what? What is that music they have on 2k9 honestly the worst music I can remember in a sports game, what about that user interface, yuk? Online is bad. Where is the 2k camera? Oops they forgot it. Blacktop wasn't much to write home about. Cut scenes bad, closeups often not good likenesses. Cutscenes and closeups wouldn't be an issue good or bad or that important, yet 2k goes to them EVERY DAMN PLAY. Why because they think they are good, they are the worst of the games. Their game may look the best from the standard cameras, but closeups forget it. What's with gatorade ads during gameplay? Why is the crowd on the court? To make it more intense, etc...Well you can't even see the whole court the crowd is so close to the sideline, and the crowd looks great, but why are they moving around like they all just did a line of coke?
NONE of the titles are worth 60. I think LIVE is gonna to be the best game without a debate next year, they have the market and all the tools now to polish the game they just made, which they should have already done. Both games are 7-8. I expect 9's for an annual series producer.

The consensus on the net as far as reviews is that 2k9 is the better game. Not saying Live sucks but apples and oranges ya know?
As for the music......i disagree....i on more than one occasions found myself bobbbing to the tunes
