Triangle experience prevails b/c the newbies might be bad for chemistry.

Sun Yue will get at least a year to prove himself. GL.

And it looks like Coby is connected for life b/c of his daddy, lol.

I think it's still possible that Coby Karl will be cut, perhaps not today but certainly before his contract becomes guaranteed. Keep in mind that he would cost the Lakers $711,517, $1,423,034 including lux tax. That's a lot of money for a guy that shouldn't even be in the league and part of the reason I thought the Lakers might keep a rookie for the 15th spot since their contract would only be $442,114. Anyways, keeping him seems like a huge waste of money.

EDIT: Here are a couple of tidbits I found on Hoophype:

From the OC Register:
Don’t get comfortable just yet Coby Karl. The second-year player survived the latest roster cuts after the Lakers requested waivers Wednesday on rookies Joe Crawford and C.J. Giles. But that doesn’t mean Karl has secured a spot. Coach Phil Jackson impiled that Karl probably would be around at least until Sasha Vujacic and Kobe Bryant are 100 percent - or close to it.

From the LA Times:
Guard Coby Karl was not waived, though Lakers Coach Phil Jackson said the team might make one more cut before the season begins. Karl will receive a partial payout of a $712,000 team option on his contract if he is still with the team at the end of this month...... Jackson seemed more comfortable keeping Karl for now because he has a year's experience at shooting guard in the Lakers' system and because guard Sasha Vujacic only recently returned from an ankle injury. "With Sasha still limited in what he could do and with the Kobe 'possible' injury, it seemed to be the right match," Jackson said.

I would of rather kept either of Giles or Crawford over Coby Karl, but i guess when it came down to it. They probably kept carl cause his year under the triangle and was probably Phil's decision. Though i hope he gets cut before the season starts. He's worthless.

I can only think they kept Coby Karl because of what Sasha became. Sasha could shoot lights out in practice and only the last year 1/2 has he produced. Maybe coaching staff thinks same could be said for Coby.

I was big on Sun Yue, but seeing the preseason... yuck... maybe they kept him for all the revenue they're gonna make selling his Jersey in China? that $$$ is prolly gonna be thrown @ Bynum's extension.... :rofl2:

I don't think so...

Doesn't adidas get paid for jersey sales??

So... Sun Yue's jersey sales in Staples would be the only place where Buss can get cash for that a$$, right?

Sucka. :naaa:

Not surprised at all nor disappointed. Maybe they based the final roster spots on who gives the core team a better challenge in practice? Either way, I'm satisfied because they chose role players over talent. Like other people already stated, it might have to do with team chemistry.

In what little pre-season game time I've watched, Coby Karl has disappointed me a whole lot. I expected him to take a great leap forward this season. If he doesn't start showing his real stuff soon, they might cut him, too.

I also liked the potential of Giles and Crawford a whole lot. I guess we're running out of time for potential, though. We need players ready to play in the finals rather than long term projects. At this point, we still have two projects — Sun and Karl. One can bring in big bucks from China, one has a lot of promise to realize in a hurry.

I was hoping we kept Crawford. He's certainly a better basketball player than Karl, but Karl knows he isn't anything special therefore he keeps his mouth shut and tries his hardest when he does get playing time. He's a great locker room guy and he's got a high basketball IQ.

He's become this teams' Slava.

^ Ha ha. Not so fast, that's quite an accusation to make this early in his career, Ty.

I think he'll start to bloom towards the end of the season, assuming he'll still be here. He'll be a solid initiator/shooter and a good man-defender.

You're right...:( I'm just saying every new guy is Slava, hoping that we will one day have His Greatness return.

Come home, Slava, come home... :(
