Another ugly win, but the defense was downright spectacular again (well, minus the 1st q and the late 2nd quarter breakdown + the last minute of the 4th q, when Farmar could've easily drained the clock but rather decided to statpad a bit). We've won 2 games while shooting under 40% from the floor already (we've managed to win only 6 out of 46 such games since the 2004/05 season prior to the Denver game).

I hope our offense soon follows our defense, because it's painful watching great scorers (Kobe, Gasol, Sasha...) and guys who normally shoot a great percentage (Bynum) brick shots like crazy. FTs also need work, there's absolutely no excuse for shooting that poor from the charity stripe.

But did I mention that defense... wow. :)

Can't wait for Sunday.

woooo 22-0 run

good to see that we can win the ugly games, slow start could have been from the days off

can't play like that and win against the rockets though, have to get it going earlier (opening tip would be nice)

17 boards and 4 blocks for Bynum :o thats huge

good defense outside of the first, i think someone said 59 points the last 3 quarters, thats good

yay lakers win :D

It kind of felt like the Lakers were just toying with the Clippers the whole night. It never really felt like a close game even tho we were actually down in the fourth. It seemed like Lakers were finally like "F this, lets blow them out already.'

Our offense looks like caca, but our defense has compensated. Of course, we haven't played any good teams yet, so it'll be interesting to see if our defense can carry us against a worthy opponent when our offense does struggle.

Hopefully Bynum will get with the program fairly soon, as I believe he's the number one reason our offense is out of whack. His defense and rebounding have been phenomenal though, and I know he'll get on track sooner rather than later. I wonder if all the mental midgets out there that said Bynum wouldn't have made much of a difference in the Finals have been paying attention because he's showing exactly why he would have helped. It's going to be a good year.

^^I'm sure it'll take some time for Bynum to tune in offensively. It almost seems like he's smaller out there on offense, or at least that he makes himself smaller. Heck, I can't even explain it properly, but the moves just aren't there yet. He's one huge sob and should use his length to his advantage instead of lowering his head and getting rejected. Of course our guards not creating easy opportunities isn't helping him either - instead of bestowing some confidence, he's hanging out there forced into a 1 on 1 situation and so far he's not been any good at it (for the majority of the time). But, honestly, he's played in only 4 meaningful games after 10 months of layoff, so I'm not worried about his offense.

The defense by him, like you said semi-sentient, is downright nasty. It's been only 4 games but he's anchoring the D marvelously. When he gets into the flow of the offense, it's going to be even better.

I loved that Kobe attacked after his jumper cooled off, but to be honest, he did miss some of the shots he normally makes, so 8-21 is a lot worse on paper than it seemed.

Pau needs more touches and the Machine needs to be recalibrated.

Anyone knows what's wrong with Mihm? It's the second straight game he hasn't played. I mean, is he really going to be used solely as a 3rd/4th string center in total blowout games? He might not be the Mihm from 2005/06, but he could prove to be useful as the season unfolds. If he's healthy I don't see a reason for having him stashed somewhere at the end of the bench.

Luke not playing much is also something I enjoy a lot. Let him get completely healthy, before Phil falls in love with him again.

Now, if only there was a way to make these 3 days shorter... why can't we play sooner than Sunday? Why?

Ugly win but I wil take it. The Lakers need to quit falling in love with the 3pt shot especially when they are not hitting them. Nice D when they needed it in the 4th q to put the game away.

I was at the game. I had good premier seats. I could easily have thrown my free t-shirt at Kupchak, who was sitting just to my right. I probably couldn't have reached Jack — but maybe, if I rolled it up real tight. Talk about mvp, when they showed Jack on the jumbothron, the place erupted.

Anyway, it was a pretty lame game to watch, especially given the ticket price. I'm glad I went, though. It's always a different thing seeing them live. They seemed a bit rusty and out of rhythm, even in shoot-around, like they're just starting to get their engines warm. The cool thing though that I noticed is that despite that rustiness, they have great chemistry and trust in each other — slapping hands, joking around, as if they know they're not there yet. After the shoot-around, I had a feeling they're not going to play great just yet, but they have no doubt that they can win every game if they just focus.

The first half was really disappointing, except from Bynum's rebounding and blocking spree. Kobe was missing lay-ups, spacing wasn't there, Gasol didn't get any touches, and the inside-outside game was more or less non-existent. Defensively, they couldn't protect the weak side if their lives depended on it.

I think those two things are going to be the key for this team, this season — weak side defense, and inside out offense. The weak side three point line cannot be left open like it was in the first half, and against Denver. Offensviely, both Andrew and Pau are excellent passers, something that wasn't tapped at all in the first half. I blame the point guards for that. In the second half, they protected the weak side a lot better and shut off the baseline drives for Thornton, which suffocated Dunleavy's plan of attack, and Fisher and Radman got some wide open looks because of some inside-out plays. I'm really glad they ended up winning this ugly game. Great teams do just that, they win games even when they're playing poorly.

And, to everyone that's critical of Bynum, he needs some time to get back into it. He was removed from the game for nine months and only had limited minutes as a pro ball player before he went down. Had he been a six year veteran when he was injured, it would have been easier for him to get back into the swing of things quickly. It's going to take him some time. Personally, I expect him to start dominating again, sometime around christmas.

All in all, I'm still super excited about Bynum's return, how well he and Pau are running the floor despite their size. I'm also still really excited about what Ariza brings. With him, Odom and Farmar sparking the second unit, together, they almost make up for the energy that Ronny brought last season.

Once the starters get in a grove and start putting teams away early in games, I look forward to seeing Phil incorporating Powell, Mihm and Mbenga a little bit more. They'll get their minutes, and hopefully, that can allow our starters to be disgustingly fresh come playoffs time.

As fans, our minds are already in the NBA Finals, let's just focus instead on each game as if it were their last, and let's hope they look at it the same way.

Having said that, I want to see them swinging the ball around a bit more. There seems to be a confusion over when they should run a fast-paced possession, or a slower half-court set. I'd like to see Farmar's decision making in that regard get a little crisper. Same with Fish, actually. They need to find a way of distinguishing better when to run what.

Farmar is still making a lot of mistakes in terms of his decision making. He's not a starter on this team just yet, but I wouldn't be surprised if he's one of our closers towards the end of this season. For now, he's a perfect spark plug off the bench. I say, let's keep it that way until he starts valuing every decision a little wiser.

Overall, this was a good win. Kaman, Thornton, Camby and Baron Davis aren't exactly slouches. This Clipper team has a lot of potential for growth, even within this season. The way I see it, they have an outside chance of making the playoffs but they need to pick it up in a hurry before their losing starts getting to them too much. I think they'll be one of those teams that will click every now and then and spoil games for a few legit contenders. Thornton is an incredible talent.

Luke got clowned, bad.

On a serious note, last night Odom played some uninspired ball, to put it lightly. Or, he played like he didn't give a crap. Or, that he played like crap. Or a combination of both. There were some really stupid moments out there.
