Ok Lakers family once again we re-live one of our finest moments in Lakers history. For those of you who havent visied yet, I do these threads to rehash what you remember from memory & then from watching the game over what you might have noticed this time around. So make your posts & let's see where you were & what you remember & what you saw differently (if you had a chance to watch the replay).
For me I'll never forget this game. I was at the beach in Cali, I believe it was Redondo Beach. We were having some type of family gathering. Someone had a portable B/W TV so all I could do every now & then was ask what the score was. Early on the Lakers were down 24 points so I remember saying wow, this only happened because they poisoned (food) Kobe!! Food poison up in Sacramento? Hmmmm (cough, cough). But the Lakers began to chip away at the lead so I started checking in on the score more frequently. Family & non family were gathered around watching the Final seconds tick off, when Kobe missed on the drive, then Big Shaq missed the put back, I thought it was over until Vlade tried his Magic Johnson impersonation. (Magic got a rebound in the 1991 WCF against Portland with seconds left & was too smart to give them time to foul & threw the ball down court as Portland could do nothing but helplessly watch their season tick away as the ball rolled all the way to the other end of the court) but Horry caught that attempted tip out & swished that ball right through the net & everybody @ the beach went freakin CRAZY!!!!! We were jumping around, running through the water, the whole freakin 9!! lolololol. It was great.
The the I didn't remember was how clutch Shaq was with his 4th quarter free throws & How Horry got hot from 3 point land B4 he hit that buzzer beater. Look forward to seeing more rewinds on Sunday's, I love it!

one of the best games I have ever watched.
Only on realgm is 27,000 points, 5 rings, 1 rs mvp and 2 finals mvp considered overrated!

i was on my way to my friends place up in santa cruz, his brother and i, who were driving up from l.a. stopped by at a bar in santa cruz, called "99 bottles of beer", i had to watch the game, and my friends bro knew better than to tell me no, so we watch the game in the upstairs part, completely surround by dudes with "nor-cal" tats, and hoodies and just general los angeles haters...
of course im talking ish the whole time, getting more confident, and drunker as the lakers are slooooowly chipping away, so horry makes that shot, and the room had been packed with people watching the game, horry makes the shot, i jump up and scream something dance around a bit or whatever, sit back down...
and the room is just empty....everyone, all the haters just baled....
it was freaking cool.

I was taking a crap (too many hotwings ughz) with the bathroom door open while watching the TV.
Constipated at the same time - horry made the shot - and pop! it came out! LMAO (no punn intend on the A part). Perfect ending - we both won.
Awesome game - true classic moment - priceless.

Re: Game 4 of the 2002 WCF
I was at my aunt and uncle's house and watched the beginning there. I was like dam, this isn't good...how are we getting dominated again (bc i am pretty sure game 3 was a blowout win for sac too)? Then we left, and I was just using the radio in the car. They kept chipping away and chipping away, and I just kept yelling the whole time and cheering them on. My dad raced home, and we got to see some of the 4th quarter. My best friend (who hated la), called me and said "looks like the lakers are going down and this and that, and the kings are gonna win". I was just hoping so much that we could tie it up.
Then kobe just barely missed ( i was so sure it'd go in)...then shaq got it, and for a split second I was like "yes!!! We got it!!"...but then he missed, and vlade tipped it out, and i didn't see anybody else over there. and then......
Robert Horry stepped into the picture (literally...like onto the tv screen lol). I wasn't sure there was going to be enough time left to get off a shot, and webber was coming right for him....but he got it off. The time it took for the ball to get to the basket seemed like eternity, but it went through, and I just literally fell on the ground and layed there for like 3 minutes. I couldn't believe it. I was so happy. I called my friend and said Horry is awesome. haha I couldn't believe the replays....the waves of laker fans at staples just going up and cheering. It was insane. Awesome moment, awesome game, awesome teams, awesome series.

Pay no mind to the battles you've won
It'll take a lot more than rage and muscle
Open your heart and hands, my son
Or you'll never make it over the river

I remember that day I missed half the game because my mom (may she rest in peace) took me to the movies and I got home it was about halftime when the was down 20 then cut it to 14. The the final seconds me and my mom was eating dinner and I told her that "I can't look" then when I opened my eyes I found out that Horry made the shot to win that game and even the series at 2 games a piece was happy and was crying at the same time. If it wasn't for that shot then there whouldn't have been no 3peat.

It's always cool when you're in a hostile environment & your team comes out on top! I know they were in that bar like screw this guy, let's go! lolkobeaki wrote:i was on my way to my friends place up in santa cruz, his brother and i, who were driving up from l.a. stopped by at a bar in santa cruz, called "99 bottles of beer", i had to watch the game, and my friends bro knew better than to tell me no, so we watch the game in the upstairs part, completely surround by dudes with "nor-cal" tats, and hoodies and just general los angeles haters...

Yeah that shot of everyone in staples going crazy is forever burned in memories of sports history for sure. I agree that when Shaq missed it looked bleek! He seemed to have rushed the shot thinking time may expire & it's better to to get the shot off & miss than have the buzzer sound off with the ball in his hand, but Horry saved us & the as they say, "the rest my friend is history"ronnymac2 wrote:I was at my aunt and uncle's house and watched the beginning there. Re: Game 4 of the 2002 WCF
Hadn't seen the game since it happened. I totally forgot how awesome it was, how Shaq would go up for a shot and send the 3 guys draped all over him flying AND draw a foul, Horry's OTHER big 3s in the fourth, Kobe still feeling the effects of the Cheeseburger Incident at the start.
Once Kobe got going tho, it was sweet to watch, but kinda weird to look at him then and realize, he IMPROVED his game.
Also, that was the game where he made the "quacking hands" thing at Phil. At least they made up
I watched the game in the den at my folks' house, too nervous to watch it out in the living room with everyone else. I nearly threw up til the shot went through

That's what the great games do for us, when you watch them again you just say WOW all over again. Shaq was also clutch from the line in the 4th as wellHunter103 wrote:Hadn't seen the game since it happened.
