Re: Wierd and a classless article on Farmar
Hey you guys, i'm Jewish. I take offense to this article. the writer says that it doesn't seem like there is a problem in being Jewish and good at basketball. by adding "seem" he is saying that there is a problem. He defends his thought that Jews can't be good at basketball because Farmer doesn't look Jewish and doesnt play like a Jew. He has stereotyped Jews into playing a certain way. Furthermore, the reason that there are so little Jewish pro ball players because the religious ones cant play on Saturday and friday night, and we are a minority. there are about 37500 Jews in the world, therefore we proportionally it makes sense there are less of us playing pro ball. Furthermore, there is no Jewish style. Just like everyone other nation each ind. has a different style. I will never buy this magazine again.

His name is Farmar, with an "a", not Farmer.
I say we should have a poll and officially brand the author a Jewish Nazi and start burning down random buildings. If you want to find him, he works for ESPN as a staff writer, his last name is Katz, and he looks like this:

Or is it considered racially motivated profiling by me to assume he's Jewish, basing it on his looks and his last name? Sorry if I offended anyone. Like ST said, It was a lame attempt at a joke — an ethnocentrically self-deprecating joke, if you can even call something that.
He ends his blog entry like this:
This thread is a good microcosm. Racial discussions are historically based on misunderstandings like this one. People jump to conclusions before taking the time to seek out the whole truth and then they go off burning the witch. Maybe this "either-you're-with-me-or-against-me" polarizing and quick on the trigger type of thinking (or rather lack thereof) will finally leave with its undisputed poster boy in DC, come January 2009. I know, I'm such a dreamer.
And btw, I think it's unhealthy to look at ourselves as individuals within different races. As far as I'm concerned, we're all individuals within the human race and in this hole together.
Peace.

Maybe if there was an elite Jewish basketball player in the League right now, I’d follow his career, rock his jersey in public, and start a blog focused on his every move. I wasn’t around to go crazy for Dolph Schayes, and there’s no Sandy Koufax or Hank Greenberg-quality ballplayer around today in hoops. (The “Jewish Jordan” doesn’t count.)
But honestly, I submit that my choices as a fan have far less to do with religion, looks, and race than they have to do with style. That’s not exactly a profound point, except when you consider that for many people style is determined by those other factors.

I guess none of the posters that were critical of this article had the balls to admit they not only were flat out wrong, but also practicing reversed racism by stereotyping this guy as anti semitic, followed by not owning it. Weak sauce, guys. Weak sauce. I'm disturbed by the lack of spine.

Well Im here to address your post since I actually started this thread, and honestly I still didnt get why this article was written.
I never called this guy racist or pull out the race card.
I was just wondering questioning his prupose, and found it wierd why he kept on using the word jew and jewish.
Im either being (Please Use More Appropriate Word) and cant reed for ish, but I still dont understand the purpose of this article............ I think Im lost here.
Also I still find it tasteless for Dime magazine to write up an article like this. Sorry EE I just dont understand what the writer was trying to achieve.
Also I'll step up and admit if I reed it wrong and hey I made and still make a lot of mistakes, but I M CONFUSED ABOUT THIS ARTICLE............
