How long is our championship window?

Post#1 » by wfiles » Mon Jan 5, 2009 8:20 pm

Obviously we have this year and then next year:
Kobe will be 31 years old and will opt out to sign a bigger contract
Odom will be 30 years old and an UFA
Gasol will be 29 years and signed for 2 more years
Bynum will be 22 years old and signed for 4 more years

Those are our core players and everyone else is replaceable. So how much longer can we compete for championships before we would have to rebuild again?

as long as the lakers organization is intact, and there is still an NBA, the opportunity to win a championship is there

I think if bynum can progress quicker,I think we can have a three to five year window. :D
Only on realgm is 27,000 points, 5 rings, 1 rs mvp and 2 finals mvp considered overrated!

I agree lets focus for this year. However with the current roster there is at least a 5 year window. Kobe's conditioning is probably one of the best in the world, easily better than many young twenty year olds.

As long as Kobe keeps on trucking, we'll be fine. Without Mamba, it would certainly be a different story. So.. another 2-3 years after this one.

It started this year, even though we picked up Gasol 11 months ago. Granted, just because the window's there, doesn't guarantee S, but this is our first truly legit chance to pull it off since 2004. (I never thought we had a prayer against the Celtics last year considering they had an entire season under their system, no injuries, played solid D, and our team was talented, but still distorted w/ Gasol playing 5 -- gave KG free reign in addition to the damage Pierce was already inflicting).

Naaaaaa I disagree, I think our window is opened when we win our first title, until then were still the W/C cahmpions, so Im not counting yet, but thats just me.

As long as we have KB and Gasol the window stays open, after that I cant call it. Our future isnt as bright now that Wynum has been exposed as a pot of fools gold. Hopefully we can trade him or something before his contract is considered untradable. I have never liked Bynum so I cant be labled as a bandwagon guy.
