Rebound Challenge

Post#1 » by DubaLakers » Wed Jan 14, 2009 6:42 pm

You are not a NBA professional. But I'll make you one in this scenario...

You are 7 feet tall, 275 lb center, you're 21 years of age, you're in great shape, you know how to play the game well, have very good leaping ability, and an excellent wing span, you didn't go to college, but were one of the prized HS recruits that went straight to the pros, you are one of the future stars in the league and you are good enough to start on the LA FREAKING Lakers. You've been in the league for at least 3 years.

For this specific challenge you are playing against a center that is 7 feet 6 inches tall and skilled, but nothing you can't match with your athletic ability.

Here's the challenge I need 2 rebounds or more from you within 26 minutes 52 seconds of playing time, do you think you could complete the challenge in the time provided?

"Hmm, I might be able to get you one board, that's a tough challenge, well see..."

Sure, BUT do you still want me to contest every shot around the basket taken by perimiter and post players alike that skip to the basket with little or no deterrent from the other 4 guys on my team?

If so, understand that this will pull me out of rebounding position and reduce my opportunities.

Oh, and this center you speak of who is 7'6", does he play around the basket? Or does he shoot more from the perimiter?

If the latter, understand that this again will pull me out of rebounding position and reduce my opportunities.

I agree with you, which is one of the reasons why usually anyone doesn't have huge rebounding games. Yao shoots a lot of turnaround 13-18 feet jumpers. And he's got such a soft touch, that if it misses, it usually goes close to the basket where Powell, Lamar, or Kobe usually is. Which is why Kobe had 7 rebounds, Lamar 4, Pau 7, and Radmanovic 6. It's a team rebounding game when you play the Houston Rockets.

But either way, 1 rebound can't cut it, and Drew has to consistently expect more from himself. He needs to go out on the floor and know, "I'm getting 8 rebounds a game, I don't care who you want me to guard."

I think you are both right on the money!! Drew has been playing much better lately but now that LO is back his mins will go down and he needs to bring it when he is on the floor. Everyone knows that one board isnt going to cut it!

Our perimeter plays have to do a better job of contesting shots and getting stops if Andrew is to get some more rebounds. Two rebounds for Drew at the half, the leading rebounder is Pau Gasol so far with 3. That's ugly. Get stops and then focus on rebounding!
