^ yep, I agree.
Fish made a living in the NBA by playing decent D and making open jumpers at a fairly respectable rate. Most importantly, it was thanks to playing along Shaq and Kobe for many years that he was able to get alot of open looks. Again he is the benefactor of playing on a talented team. But his age/legs and more importanlty, his mindset are not being true to a-typical Fish play.
Fish a stand up guy. A good guy, but he's forgotten who he really is as a basketball player as more and more he is playing outside of his given talents. Now that he is 34, he is often exposed by younger, quicker guards. He can't keep anyone in front of him and consistantly has to reach to make a play on the ball. He's supposed to be a player who makes good decisions but as of late, he's done only the opposite. He should have never gotten is such a bad defensive position vs Mason. All he had to do was get between him and the entry pass and it would have been our game or at worst case, overtime. Damn, that loss urked the hell out of me.
But what frustrates me the most are the bad decisions he makes on offense:
1. insists on getting to the rim, but rarely finishes
2. pulls up for quick 3s on fast breaks and early on shotclock
3. horrible at making the right play when leading the fast break
Not to mention, he rarely makes a decent pass into the post. It seems like he annointed himself a 3rd scorer on the team because he is one of the veterans, but no way should Fish ever put up more than 10 shots in a game given the talent of other Lakers on the squad.
To say that Fish is responsible for our defensive shortcomings is a bit much, but I do think that Fish should be a backup at best on this particular Laker team. The longer we wait to make a move, the hearder it will be for anyone to fully grasp the triangle... do it now Mitchie.
