The new Kobe, 3 games with 10 plus assists

Post#1 » by lakeshow248 » Wed Jan 21, 2009 7:02 pm

I don't know what it is but it seems Kobe could get 10 assists a game if he wanted to. It comes so easy for him, to get people wide open shots with the attention he creates. Just over the last 3 games it has been a pleasure to watch. I think I would rather the 20 and 10 assists Kobe over the 30 and 5 Kobe any day, with the option of opening it up in the fourth if need be.

Do you guys think it is a defense issue with the double teams or a bigger effort on Kobe to be more of a point guard with Farmar and Luke out. I really think the team is more dangerous when Kobe is in pass mode. I think if he could average 10 dimes for the rest of the season it would be an amazing accomplishment, hopefully the injury on his finger helps him do that.

I agree it's nice seeing Kobe being able to dish out those assists however our record those past 3 games is 1 win and 2 losses. I'd take the 30-5 Kobe that wins us games. I do wish Kobe could up his rebounds/assists to at least 7/7 but in the system he's in it would prove extremely difficult to do. Especially with the twin towers + odom grabbing the boards and the tri-offense geared to spreading the assists out between the team as a whole.

yeah, remember that triblep-double lost we just had.. darn. That win would have been icing on the cake hehe.

I don't mind him getting more assists but it also means that the others have to be hitting their shots as well.. I guess that's why kobe turns on his one-man mode; when his team mates can't get it done...
But then again, he has to trust them more as well.

Assists are a statistic that don't necessarily correlate to team success. Jose Calderon averages more assists than he's actually helping his team with. 3 Jose Calderon assists = 2 Chris Paul assists, or something like that, because Jose stat pads a bit. You have to see how many of those assists led to important baskets and how many of them were a dish to an insanely open man or during a fastbreak when Kobe could've totally finished it himself but practically hands it off to a trailer.

I'm not accusing Kobe of stat padding, I'm just saying that this isn't a change in his game or anything, and it's not a sign of great things to come, either.

They need to add a stat that shows attempted assists.

^^ I like that.

Anyways RE: Stat Padding, I've never seen Kobe give up the ball to a trailer on a fastbreak. He'd much rather happily go 1 on 2 if it came to that. All his assists are pretty legit and one of the reasons why Gasol is shooting such a high %.

You guys do realize why his assists are up don't you? Jordan Farmar. Strictly temporary.

everyone prepare for a few weeks of more assists from kobe

useless digits makes him less confident in his shot and more likely to look for the big men, cutters and wide-open shooters

This finger dislocation could become a blessing in disguise if it means getting Andrew 20 shots a night I'm all for it. Getting Bynum going as the second option would be very big coming down the stretch.

The more confidence Kobe shows in him, I think will also help Andrew rebound harder and block more shots. I think Andrew is pressing and wants to do a lot after getting the big contract extension.

Oh yeah!
Jose Calderon just makes meaningful assists
That formula over there is the silliest thing I've ever heard on this forum.

Chris Paul also makes most out of easy passes for easy baskets (like all those lob passes to Chandler, or every pass to an open Stojakovic). Did John stockton make meaningful/easy assists with Malone on the break, or an open Hornacek?

What also makes that formula insane is that Calderon has the best assits/turnover ratio, best on free throw percentage on the league. That means: He's an insurace policy for his team, never fails a FT shot, rarely loses the ball. Also has great shooting FG percentages. THAT helps his team to win. Is not just about making last second clutch 3-pointer over two defenders. Is the whole game that counts in order to make your team win (have you ever played organized basketball FGS ?!). What makes Toronto loose is an ignorant head Coach, no D from some players and lack of depth on the team.

Chris Paul, on the other hand scores much more and has that star role on his team and on the league. Clearly the best PG today.

But...... 3 calderon assists = 2 Chris paul Assists.....man, this is being US homie. Should Calderon be named "Steve Snouzerface" and coming out of NY and he should be considered next John Stockton...
