So I looked at my calendar today....

Post#1 » by ronnymac2 » Thu Jan 22, 2009 9:50 pm

...and saw it's the 22nd of January. I thought to myself that this date is an anniversary or something. Maybe a birthday? And then I remembered....Kobe Bryant scored 81 points in a game 3 years ago today.

I didn't watch the game (I don't live in Cali), but I had to stay up late to do a paper, and I kept track of what was going on on NBA.com. Basically, the first thing I saw was it said Kobe Bryant had 51 points or something. Then I saw the score was close......then I saw it was still in the 3rd quarter. I was shocked. I knew then that 60 was a guarantee, and maybe even 70 was possible. I thought, wow, 70 points in a game hasn't happened since David Robinson in 94 or 95. Into the 4th quarter, he kept scoring and scoring...he hit 2 3's to get to 70. They kept going to him, and he hit free throws. When I saw the numbers 80 and 81, I didn't believe it. I thought, hell no, nba.com has a glitch or something...only one player, Wilt, scored over 80 points, and I didn't think anybody could do it now. It was crazy. Obviously, I've seen all his shots on youtube now lol. It was a very impressive feat.

What do you remember about that game? Was anybody there? What were you thinking as his point total kept getting higher?

I think I had just moved into a new apartment and was dumped immediately after by some sorry ass peanut-brain bitch that asked me to stay in San Antonio (instead of moving to Austin, which I ended up doing anyway) then messed around and moved to Cali out of the blue. Ungrateful ass whore. Because of that **** I had to pay a ton in fees to break my lease for both my apartment complex and Lifetime Fitness. Bitch.

Anyway, I was pretty pissed at the time and I recall watching that game and feeling an adrenaline rush throughout. As usual, I wasn't pleased that we were losing by so much to the Raptors, and what came next was completely unexpected. It was exciting as hell and gave me something to be happy about. I pretty much messaged all my friends (who hate the Lakers) and told them about it, then they all tuned into to SportsCenter to watch the highlights. The game itself was crazy and I just remember feeling for the Raptors as they looked hopeless and lost trying to find a way to stop him. It was pure insanity.

I remember pulling for him to get 60, then 70, then 80 (which I seriously doubted), but he just kept hitting shots and getting to the free throw line. He really started forcing it towards the end, but screw it, when you're hot you gotta do what you gotta do.

First of all... LMAO!!! Oh man.

Second: I was in my basement watching it with my brother. It was actually the first day I made a post on Real GM.

I was so mad when they were down 18, I was slamming the couch, my brother was shaking his head laughing a bit. Then it was like an avalanche. Never seen anything like that before. Definitely was stoked. A big win at the time, and an incredible performance.

I remember noticing that we were playing the sorry Raptors and deciding I wasn't going to go watch (my cable service didn't have the NBA Ticket as an option at the time). I've been regretting that decision for years.
