Is Jason Kidd possible in Off-Season?

Post#1 » by shobe_81 » Sat Feb 7, 2009 9:42 pm

I know Kidd was discussed a week or so ago but:

Right now he makes $21 Million, now I'm sure he's looking for a championship as his career is coming near end. I'm sure he's got enough money and Kobe/Kidd have wanted to play on the same team.

Is it possible we can pick him up in the off-season? I don't know what the salary cap is, but We will have Mihm, Ariza, and Odom coming off the books.

Of course, it's ideal to resign Ariza, and maybe even Odom depending on the salary/yrs. And Odom has said he wants to be a Laker for life and Ariza is also a hometown player.

Given our financial situations/changes, what happens? Does Kobe opt out for lesser money to keep some players?

Just look at this:

PG: Kidd/Fisher/Farmar
SG: Kobe/Sasha/Yue
SF: Ariza/Luke/Ammo
PF: Pau/Odom/Powell
C: Bynum/...

Oh Man CHAMPIONSHIPPPPPP :D Am I just dreaming?

I watched it and I still think this thread is better

I guess I'm on the Coffee high, or just wishing for a Jason Kidd to the Lakers :)

With Ariza and Odom Free Agents and the lakers payroll after they both resign

With the Lakers having 2 pg's in Fish and Farmar, with farmar being young and only getting better.

Do you seriously see this happening?

Well I guess it's highly unlikely given the financial burden.

No it's not.

It's a CLASSIC case of the old player in his last three years who wants his best shot at a title before he hangs them up.

He'll be a Laker ... guaranteed ... even if he has to take FAR LESS money, he'll do it for a ring or two or three.

Book it.

And he loves Kobe as a friend and a teammate, and when Kobe publicaly bashed Bynum, Kobe showed his loyalty to Kidd that he would vouch for kidd to make this team better.
I have no doubt that Kidd will be in LA next year.

I don't know..personally I think Kidd is done. His defense is not even close to what it was before, hee can't shoot, and with Kidd and Ariza, teams could just zone up in the paint and the Lakers are screwed. I personally would just stay with Fish and Farmar to be honest

To shobe.................dude J-Kidd is D O N E. Why would the Lakers want to get "older" at the point position when you have all these young quick points that historically give us trouble. Kidd is 35 now plus he doesn't fit the triangle at all. You guys need to really sit down and think about what your contemplating before you sit and post it. It makes no sense what so ever, do you even realize Kidd has never had success in a structured system.

It's the same reason he left college early, the same reason he sold out on Byron Scott to which I've never forgiven him. I NEVER want to see him in a Laker uniform.

I get pissed every time I see his name and the Lakers in the same sentence.

i wouldn't take kidd over ariza/odom, and thats the choice the lakers would need to make if kidd was willing to sign for the mle.

If the Lakers are interested and are willing to give him a starting role as facilitator on offense and defender of two-guards (and some PGs) on defense, I'd be willing to bet money he'd take the minimum.

All great players at the end of their careers want a CHANCE to win a championship on a team in which they can play a substantial role.

I would take Sheed over any pending free agents. His intangibles of toughness, previous champion and by all accounts a great teammate would be a great fit. Not to mention at age 34 or 35 would be looking for a winner and a lesser role which would mean, less money to the pay roll.

He'd be the perfect personality fit for this team.

Wouldn't it be possible to snatch them both?

The Lakers can snatch up all the ring chasers they want

This is nothing new... GP, Malone, Mitch Richmond, Rice before he finally fell off
Thats what championship teams do. Grant Hill, Kidd, Shaq, Sheed, and many others will want to come to LA to finish their careers w/ a bang. DUH
Lakers are 22-3 in OT last 6 seasons:Kobe best OT closer!
