I think there is something else in the Making with Mitch.

Post#1 » by TonyMontana » Sun Feb 8, 2009 1:09 am

Last year when we traded Cook/Evans for Ariza, a certain Mod told me that there is a bigger trade in the making.
I didnt know what to say, but then a short time later we got Pau.
Now there was rumors about Sasha being traded when he publicaly came out and said that he wanted to stay as a Laker.
So the timing seems the same as last year and now we have a few more pieces to play with and one piece has been L.O.
Now L.O is doing ehhhhhh somewhat good still not what we expect him as far as his consistancy, but he is doing his job.

The door is open for a few certain players that are being shopped around, and one of those key players are Amare Stoudemire.
True that I dont think the Suns will trade Amare to us, BUT they are shopping everybody including Shaq, Amare, Hill and even J Rich that they just aquired.
So I take it, the Suns have thrown the towel in and they are rebuilding now.

Now could it be that with L.O expiring contract coming off the books next year and having Sasha available since the Suns lack a shooter, or could be something else in the works for another trade to come???
I think so, I think there is another blockbuster trade in the works, call me crazy, but I think there is something else in the works that we dont know about.

forget about Sasha being traded unless we are talking about a trade for another 3 point shooter.

You're crazy, man!

I wouldn't put it past Mitch to have something big in the works, whether or not it actually happens is the question.
The OC Register has this about today's trade:

"Kupchak said the trade came together in just the past week — and was just put together in earnest Friday afternoon. He said he does not expect to make another trade before the deadline for a big man while Bynum recovers."

So if he is working on something, he's being very secretive about it.

But I don't think Amare would be the best fit on the Lakers, the reason he's unhappy in PHX is because he wants to be The Guy, and Shaq is muscling in on his turf. Imagine if he had to compete for Guy time with Kobe, Pau, and Bynum.

Also, Suns could get better players from other teams than the Lakers would be willing to part with ('Sheed, J.J. Hickson). Personally, I think Shaq would be a better fit here, IF he were willing to come off the bench behind Drew AND restructure his bloated contract, two things I don't think he'd be willing to do.

I think we are fine right now at all positions... And even that much better when Bynum comes back

It'd be tough to do unless you make a move with Farmar+Mihm+Mbenga. That could get you something but it likely won't be it.

I agree though with you on another subject. Shannon Brown may yet be of some major potential for us. There's skills to be a great triangle PG are there.

I also was thinking of something bigger and I think any trade would have to come from the Eastern Conference. A Rasheed Wallace deal might make sense for both teams. They are both expiring and Odom could add something to that team in the starting lineup. Right now Sheed is in the end of his career IMO and he is a bench player on a contending team. You always here the Lakers' brass and Kobe speaking of "they lack toughness" well Rasheed could be the remedy for all that ales this team.

If the Pistons got Odom and he fit they could re sign him. AI, Stuckey, Amir, Odom and Prince would provide more offense. Sheed could be a nice backup for the Lakers' and a stop gap player until Bynum came back.

That is most logical because of the expiring factor next year. Don't forget with Bynum's raise and Odom's pending free agency that Mitch would be looking to set the salary structure for Ariza in the fold and maybe get Sheed to sign as a backup for less money.

At this point Lamar is a better player period but a better fit could be Sheed. And IMO Sheed will be getting less money next year than Odom.

Listen to Mitchie's audio on the trade off the official laker site. It sounds like a straight cap move to me. At the end of the audio when asked what about other moves in the next 1/2 weeks he says " I won't really be looking, doesn't mean I won't answer the phone. I don't think there is any other trade out there that would make us better than we already are." Lol @ Mitchie.

I think Brown will get more playing time than Adam because of his defensive ability on pgs.

So you would reject a trade for Amare Stoudemire unless the Suns throw in a shooter?

the Suns and every NBA team not named Lakers would reject a Stoudemire-Sasha trade. that trade sugestion would not even make it out of Mitch's mouth.

it is not that I love Sasha so much, it is the fact that we just traded our other 3 point shooter.

Sanq I threw Sasha in the mix as an example, but if you recall a few years ago we didnt really have any pieces to trade, but I think this year we do have a good chance of getting a good player in return........ Maybe like Noodles said.......... T. Prince. I mean we know he can shot and he is a hell of defender, also a south paw and has a vet experince and is a proven defender.

right, Prince can shoot. Amare not a shooter therefor Sasha would not be offered in that particular deal.

Obviously it wouldn't be straight up (Odom + something else of value would be involved), but I would never even consider rejecting it because of Sasha.

Amare would help spread the floor as much as Sasha does imo. Not because he's as good as Sasha behind the arc, but he's at least as good a shooter as Sasha relative to his position. Amare is one of the best mid range shooters in the game today.
