Phil Jackson
So I was watching the game last night and a favor to the Mods.
I know this is about last nights game and maybe I should've posted this on the G.T but I was wondering if Im alone on this.
P.J and his stupidity, at least in my eyes, maybe Im alone on this but here it goes.
When mid way thru the 4th we were up by double digits, P.J looks to the bench and calls out Kobe.
Well a few minutes before that I said to myself, dam its sweet that Kobe is getting his rest, maybe we need to pull Pau out as well and give them both their needed rest since our bench is holding their ground and Kobe is having an off night, BUT THEN BOOOOOM P.J calls for Kobe.
So Kobe goes in and basically starts to take shots and they're still not dropping, so point after point after point, the sixers are taking over the game.
Okay I can handle that, but then heres another problem.
WTH doesnt P.J call a time out, another problem I have with P.J when we have a big lead and he has this jacked up theory about "Let the team workout it problems" GARBAGE.
Any coach with a bit of common sense would think, "Let me call a timeout and stop the bleeding"
Yet P.J doesnt call a timeout and the lead now is a tie.
So Kobe hits a a crucial bucket, GOOD, but then out of the timeout, Phil's ass is sitting on his throne and there is 6.6 seconds left and he's ass is still sitting on his chair when he should be standing up LIKE EVERY OTHER COACH and calling for Ariza to foul by any means before he shots the shots.
I think Phil needs to focus a bit more on his coaching than his insperational books and speechs he give to his players.
I think he needs to get of his ass and run his team than sit on his chair the entire game and not even be a part of the play calling by whistling out plays.
He didnt need to reinsert Kobe back in the game, Kobe was terrible last night and he's shot was off, way off, and Famar shouldve kept the bench warm while S. Brown shouldve been givin the oppertunity to play, I think he wouldve done much better than Farmar.
But this boils down to one thing, P.Js stubborn and it has cost us many crucial games.
Me I wouldve sat Kobe down and allowed my bench to handle the game as they were handling it, there was no need for Kobe to go back in the game.

Re: Phil Jackson
Yeah, i saw the same too mah man... I was like.. wah? why is kobe back in... If the bench chemistry is doing well.. let them ride it out. Maybe kobe told him to let him back in.. who knows... but he shouldn't have been...
Another thing i hate is while someone is playing well, he tend to take them out for some odd reason...
And the no timeout call.. come on.. that's a no brainer.... aargghh!!
that was a dumb lost... for once i blame it on the coach.

Re: Phil Jackson
Last nights loss was on P.J and Kobe.
Kobe was off and shouldve stayed out since we were doing fine without him.
Phil should've called a time out when we saw the lead disapearing and he didnt.
He shouldve called for Ariza to foul at 3 second mark and he didnt.
Its poor judgement by a coach, not a player.

Re: Phil Jackson
Nice thing you brought up this thread because I'm still trying to figure out how much of Phil's mind games are affecting Jordan Farmar's game.

Re: Phil Jackson
Regardless of how Phil's "mind games" are affecting Farmar, he should at least man up and play some defense. Is that too much to ask? He was one of the main reasons why we lost last night.
I agree with you, Tony, on the Kobe aspect. I didn't really think there was a need for him. If the lead started dwindling, then I definitely understand.
I think Phil had the right mindset in putting him back in though. Hindsight is 20/20 but in the Dallas game, Kobe was on the bench and the lead got reduced to nothing. So I think Phils motives were to get Kobe in the game to stop that from happening. However, Kobe had no rhythm and added to the cause. Combine that with Jordan Farmar's inability to do anything, and there you go.

Re: Phil Jackson
Here is the game summary play by play and you can clearly see that inserting Kobe was a worng move by Phil and Kobe forced way too many shots, and Pau was basically taken out the game by Phil and Kobe.

Re: Phil Jackson
the foul to give mistake was the worst... I kept rewinding it to see who was screaming at Trevor for the foul and the answer was almost nobody and nobody loudly for sure. Phil needed to bark at Trevor. But now Phil will say to himself:
"I bet Trevor will remember that lesson!" when in fact he may not know if we have a foul to give again and if no one shouts... he'll watch the shot go up again.
It is a very frustrating thing about Phil.
His system is awesome, but I don't buy that his lack of in game coaching is beneficial to the team's IQ.

Like I said in the game thread, I don't know if there was some scorekeeping error or what, but you guys already had 4 fouls. Three early ones(two on gasol, one on powell), and the 4th by Fisher when he reached in on Lou with 3:05 to go. On the play by play it only says a timeout at that time, but I just watched it again. We called the timeout after the foul.

Re: Phil Jackson
phil has seen kobe have bad nights before but he can still hit shots, even though he was having a bad night, he's your best guy and you live and die with him
like mentioned hindsight is 20/20 we see now that putting kobe in wasn't the best move, but if he left him out and we still lost, we would be wondering why kobe wasn't back in there even though he sucked, he's still kobe

Re: Phil Jackson
Meh... This is the type of Coach Phil is. This is nothing new. When the team has a 14 point lead he expects these grown-up millionaires to step up and close out. His reply was spot on. The Lakers Lack Killer instinct. They do.
He would rather lose a game and let this team learn the hard way about what "killer instinct" is and stepping on their throats. Vs. trying to bail the team out.
Other coaches go about it differently, not Phil. This has always been his PHILosophy and I am not surprised at all.
He is a bigger picture coach and if this "contender" is going to get leads and then turn the switch off.. they are going to learn eventually after they lose.
Re: Kobe.. he had a pretty crappy night. The foul trouble didnt help.
I put this loss on the continued disappointment in the bench and the teams overall inability to close teams out.

Re: Phil Jackson
I agree with Phil_2.0. Sorry fellas but you can't pin this on Phil especially if he told Trev and wrote it out on the clip board that we had a foul to give.

lets see how phil osophy plays out in the warriors game.. im pretty sure the sixers lost was the talk of practice.. arguments here and there.. etc.. but it's the past.. i hope they don't let it linger into the warriors game..
