FYI about Lamar and Ariza's impending FA

Post#1 » by supaflash » Mon Mar 23, 2009 11:21 pm

Now I don't know exactly what the salary cap will be yet, but from projections based on the economy and ticket sales the cap is actually going to go down this year. Using 55 mil as a safe estimate and probably 5.2 or so as the MLE we can see that only 4 teams will have the ability to offer ANY FA more then the MLE:

Atlanta
OKC
Memphis
Detroit

Atlanta - will only have 8 players on the roster though, so they will have to be extremely careful in how they spend in order to fill up their roster, plus their most glaring need will be a PG where they will either have to re-sign Bibby or go after another one.

OKC and Memphis - are both notoriously cheap and are building around their very young cores, with Durrant and Gay, I don't see either offering Ariza anything and while LO might fit pretty good for both teams I'd see them more going after Boozer or Millsap if they were really going to spend the money.

Detriot - could make a run at either guy although with Prince there why pay Ariza? LO fits well but once again i see them making a play at Boozer and if they can't get him waiting until 2010.

So to put it simply there just isn't any money to be had this summer and even if there was, teams are likely to be conservative for the 2010 market.

Big name FA's this summer -
Devin Harris, Dre Miller, Marion, Ben Gordon, Boozer, AI, Sheed, Lamar, Artest, Millsap, Ariza, Bibby, Turkoglu

Lot of players for no money being out there. I bet almost all of these guys end up back on their own team or taking smaller 1 year deals to contenders hoping for a big payout in 2010...

Stop worrying about Ariza and LO, they'll be back.

thanks, we had a giant thread something along the lines of [What is Lamar Odom worth?] or [What is Ariza worth?] or something money related

about this a while ago where all of this got put out there, about what theyre worth and how no team can outbid the lakers for odom and ariza

not to mention their intentions to stick around and win

wish the search option worked

anyone think itd be cool if we had one stickied thread that linked all the appropriate topics talked about throughout the season? sort of like a FAQ to previously discussed topics

mods, something to think about for the off-season and during season 2009/10   , could be the new fad in realgm moderating...

Odom isn't a SF, and they don't need more C level wings like Ariza on their team.

Sign Odom first then worry about Farmar

Odom is a proven guy
Ariza has only been doing it this year and he is great we should keep him but Odom is clearly a better player, DON'T GET CAUGHT UP
Lakers are 22-3 in OT last 6 seasons:Kobe best OT closer!

wait til we win the championship or not hehehe jk.

It'll be hard to sign them both. Both of them would need to sacrifice some. But winning the championship would definitely yield them back to us.. but given our financial troubles these days.. they might go with the team that would give them that extra million Will just have to wait and see...
