I have followed Sun Yue's game since his days in China. EE is correct that Chinese players aren't brought up to be Stat padders. Sun Yue, even with his Chinese team, was more of a system player. His role was never to help lead the team with their scoring, ala Yao Ming or Yi Jianlian.

The hate could be from the "Chinese Magic Johnson" nickname, which is something that was said by the media. Sun Yue has never claimed himself as that. I don't know why people are hating on him so much, he was a 2nd round pick and most 2nd rounders do not even stay in the NBA. It took several seasons for Sasha to adjust his game, who was also a 1st round pick. Every team also has their fair share of bench warmers that are there to develop.

From the games I watched Sun Yue play, I think he basically is a upgraded Luke Walton. The D-Fenders were mostly playing him at SF (or Point-Foward?) in the triangle, which is a position I think he will most likely see playing time at. Although his shot still seemed inconsistent, I still see improvement from his days when he played in China. Sun Yue can always become a better jumpshooter, many players have done that.

I also watched the games while he was with the D-Fenders. There were times where he did get into foul trouble, but he was always aggressive. He has had crucial plays in crunch time, whether it was a pass...steal...block..or even scoring. His teammates cheer him on when he gets his blocks, that's one thing I don't think many people expected from him. Also he is a pass-first player, he's always looking to get the ball to his teammates and I think he would of averaged more assists had his teammates converted. The D-League has a lot of sloppy players too, many times Sun Yue gets the ball to other players...which included Earl Barron (former NBA player), but they were bricking shots.

Also Sun Yue's first season the ABA, he was really bad too. When his second season came around, he adjusted his game and became the All-around player that he was in China. I think if there's a system that Sun Yue could benefit from, it's the triangle. It might take 2-3 seasons for Sun Yue to adjust, he might not even get the chance after this season. At the end of the day, Sun Yue was a #40th pick. Not like he was selected with the #10th pick, ala Luke Jackson, and ends up in the D-League.

Going by that logic I guess the Lakers should sign all of us for 400K.. not bad for warming the benches..

His presence gives u nothing.. wish we had kept Javaris.. instead of this guy.. another miss by Mitch..

another miss by mitch? yes, so not only did people want mitch to keep marc gasol in that absolute steal, now the lakers should have kept critt too. lol.

Memphis wanted either Javaris or Sun.. Javaris was playing well for us coming off the bench... U rarely trade a proven contributor for a unknown potential..

Ask Memphis they will tell u why they still think they got the wrong end of the deal..

If we had kept Javaris maybe the last years title would also have been ours..

Memphis wanted either Javaris or Sun? Who told you that?

Memphis also wanted Sun in the trade, but we wanted to keep at least one of those 2 guys so Memphis wanted Marc and we are happy that we were able to keep Sun Yue, because we liked him when we drafted him

And we kept Sun didn't we.. I dont think the deal would have fallen through because we wanted to keep Javaris over Sun.. It is who Kupchick bargained for..

I am pretty damn sure they wanted both Javaris and Marc, but they couldn't talk Buss into giving up Yue as well. Memphis's front office may be questionable, but they're not stupid to the point they'll give up Pau without getting a prospect who was already playing in the NBA(Marc wasn't last year, and neither was Yue). It was either Farmar or Critt, and they chose Critt because he was just a raw talent and nothing more.

People need to seriously stop backtracking on could have or should have, especially when we got Pau out of the deal. As much as I liked Critt's upside there was no telling if things would have worked out had he stayed in this team. I can admit though that there is a possibility Kupchak chose the wrong guy to trade. We could really use Critt's defense right now.

what the heck are you talking about? The Grizzlies received young talent, expirings, and picks (that's what teams do when they are rebuilding), Javaris was already part of the trade and his salary counted too. The Grizzlies also asked for both Marc Gasol and Sun Yue, but the Lakers didn't want to give up both. The point is, it was never about "give us Javaris or Sun Yue".

The deal also got them Kwame's expiring, Marc Gasol, J-Critt, and picks. Javaris Crittenton would help lead the Lakers to win last year's title? I highly doubt that. In fact, if I suggested that in the General Discussion board that maybe "Javaris Crittenton" would of been the X-factor to beating the Celtics in last year's finals, people would think it would be a April Fools joke.

Yes.

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=3226203
"We're a 13-win team, so when you're in that situation, you've got to make moves," Grizzlies general manager Chris Wallace said. "Brown was the largest expiring contact we could find in the league where we also got back an attractive young player like Crittenton ... and multiple first-round picks."

Crittenton, the 19th overall pick in the draft last summer, averaged 3.3 points in 22 games for the Lakers. He was expendable because of the fine play by second-year guard Jordan Farmar as a backup to Derek Fisher.
