Hey guys.
With the recent news of Nick Adenhart dieing in a car crash from a drunk driver.. It brings up a question to me.
I don't want to start anything negative, I just want to see if people have the same views as me. Mods, if you feel the thread is taking a turn for the worse, absolutely lock and delete it. I'm not meaning anything negative by this.
Drunk driving is something that happens every day and it affects peoples lives. The public only hears of the high profile athletes it affects, but this is a serious problem among today's society. Adenhart was so young, and to see that happen, is ridiculous. It's just horrible.. and there's nothing that the person who hit him can do at this point. Girlfriends, families, fans, etc. have to suffer because of this horrible act.
As many of you can see, I'm a Michael Vick fan, supporter. I have 2 big dogs (Boxer, Bull Mastiff) and I love them more than anything in my life. They're my best friends. I miss them everyday being away from home and going to school.
But what is worse.. an act like dogfighting or this? Drunk Driving is a serious problem and I don't see a lot of federal governments trying to put a stop to this. People get a slap on the wrist through AA, and they're back on the streets again. Look at Leonard Little. He killed someone while driving drunk, got a month or so of jail time and was back. Look at Donte Stallworth recently. He struck and killed a person while driving drunk. What no one hears about is the families and how much they have to suffer.
Something to ponder over, and hopefully people realize that getting in a vehicle after drinking alcohol is the worst possible choice you can make. It can kill you, it can kill others. Prayers go out to the Adenhart family and everyone else affected by this serious situation.

Intent. Premeditation.

drunk driving doesn't necessarily involve premeditation or intent as compared to dogfighting, but it's still manifestly obvious what the risks are.
it's very, very hard to claim with a straight face that you're unaware of the risks being taken to yourself and to other drivers when you drive drunk, and any harm that results is proximately foreseeable.

Re: OT- Drunk Driving/Manslaughter vs Other Crimes
What mike vick did was worse IMO. Because he stared at those dogs in the face before killing them. That's premeditated.
But Vick has paid his dues to society and he deserves a second chance. I don't hate him for it.
Drunk Driving is stupid. But I don't think any drunk driver is getting in his car thinking "i'm gonna kill someone today". They are using WRONG judgment that they can get home safely. I wish people wouldn't do it since so many people die from alcohol related accidents ever year.
I always wondered. What if there was a breathalyzer in your car that you had to blow in prior to starting the car. If you blew under the legal limit the car should start. If not...then it won't start.
Maybe I should write a letter to my congressmen. haha

They have those breathalizers for cars, i think you have to get like 2 or 3 DUI's to get them forced on you. I'm not sure about that but its pretty rediculous, I see people get DUI's all the time and act like its nothing. Personally I abhore drunk drivers and I get pissed at my friends when I find out they did. I am not perfect and I've gotten mad at myself for it as well. I've never purposely done it but there have been a few times where I thought I was much more sober then I actually was and when I made it to the destination I have been shocked at myself. Luckily I was never tested with anything to have to react to to know how bad I might have been. Since then I ALWAYS make sure I have a ride, place to stay, or public transportation. Now I moved right downtown next to all the places I go so I never have to drive, I figure if thats going to be my lifestyle why make it any harder on myself? Aside from those few times when I wasn't really sure if I've never come close. Even when I've been **** I've somehow alwasy had enough sense to never go near a vehicle. I think its because I think about it before hand and how I could not live with myself if I caused an accident.
To me, even though its an accident, if its an accident caused by absolutely unecessary circumstances then it should fully be your fault. Its really no different then shooting a gun randomly in some direction along the horizon. Chances are (depending on where you are obviously) you won't hit anyone or kill anyone. BUT if you did it would completely be your fault and you would be up for murder. Driving drunk to me is no different and should be treated the same. It especially irritates me when hihg profile stars/athletes just get away with it like its nothing. Mello got off with an appology and a shrug. JRich a few weeks ago got what? A slap on the wrist and a 1 game suspension? You are a damned millionaire for #@!%$#@ sake, call a damn cab, limo, one of your posse, agent, who cares you have a hundred ways to get somewhere... Its innexcusable imo.
Sorry to go off but its such a pet peeve for me because most people are so stupid and ignorant while they are driving to begin with its just sad. EVERY morning I turn on the news there is at least one major wreck on the work commute and its 90% people's stupid mistakes. DUI's should carry a HUGE penalty in my opinion. Crack down on it and people will think twice and cabbies will make more money. People are safer and happier and everyone wins...

Totally agree with you.
To see someone like Michael Vick, who has done great things in the community, get made an example of... someone should be made an example for drunk driving. This causes death in human lives. And to see someone say, "I didn't mean to.." and them get off for that.. that's ridiculous! If you ever get in a car hammered and drive, you have the intent. I don't leave on a Friday night to get hammered with friends unless I have a way back previously planned.

What are you talking about? If you hurt somebody and your drunk you go to jail for average 5-15 years.
How can you have dogs and be a Vick supporter?

Re: OT- Drunk Driving/Manslaughter vs Other Crimes
Well, I had dogs before the whole thing happened, and he was my favorite player before all this happened. Why would I jump ship? He made some big time mistakes and he's paid his price.
I stuck by Kobe when all that stuff happened, why wouldn't I stick by Vick?
And really, how many DUI's or Manslaughter get reduced to a year or less in jail. I'm saying if dog fighting, a crime not against humans, can get you 23 months in jail.. then a simple DUI or Manslaughter should get AT LEAST that. We're talking about humans here.. and their families that have to suffer.
