Kobe passes Hakeem, Havlicek on all-time playoff scorin list

Those 38 points Kobe scored Saturday vs. Utah were more than impressive: They were historic.

Mamba passed both Hakeem Olajuwon (3,755) and John Havlicek (3,776) on the NBA’s career playoff scoring list during Saturday’s Game 4, settling in at No. 7 on the all-time charts with 3,792 points.

Larry Bird is perched at No. 6 on the list with 3,897 postseason points, a mark that is within Kobe’s reach this year, assuming the Lakers continue their postseason run.

For the record, Kobe has participated in 156 playoff games in 12 years, and is averaging 24.3 ppg for his career in the postseason.

Another side note to Kobe’s 38-point explosion: It was his 50th career 30-point game in the playoffs, and he trails only Shaquille O’Neal (55) among active players.

has there ever been a guy who got such little playing time as kobe did early in his career,and was still able to put us these numbers? just imagine of kobe had the green light from the jump like a lebron,cp3,or wade? he would have had a realistic shot at breaking kareems record imo...

Assuming we make the NBA Finals and play at least 15 more games (4-1 in the next 3 series), Kobe will be move up quite a bit in few all-time rankings.

Assists: He will pass Kareem, Oscar Robertson, and Bill Russell to claim #19. He will end his career in the top 5 and has a great shot at #3 behind Magic and Stockton (passing the likes of Larry Bird, Scottie Pippen, and Michael Jordan).

Steals: He will pass Byron Scott, Isiah Thomas, Olajuwon, and Dennis Johnson to claim #11, with a legit shot at taking #10 from Karl Malone. He'll likely finish top 5 as well, taking the #5 spot from Larry Bird.

Turnovers: He will pass Dennis Johnson, Tim Duncan, and Larry Bird to claim the #8 spot all-time. He's probably going to have the #1 spot when it's all said and done, taking the place of Magic... lol.

Points: He will definitely pass Larry Bird in the next series to claim #7 and probably end this season just shy (or just over) 4,200 points. Next post-season, if we make another deep playoff run, he will pass Dr J. to claim the #5 all-time spot and close in on #4 which is held by Malone. I think he'll end up #2 all-time behind only Jordan, but who knows how long we'll be competing for titles. If Kobe averages 20 PPG over the next 5 years and we play at least 20 games in the playoffs each year, he will shatter Jordan's record for #1 all-time and be the only player to break the 6,000 point mark. The possibility of this happening seems rather high assuming we keep this group together long enough.
