Cavs & Suns Trade Talk Heating Up

Post#1 » by 3-Pt_Shooter » Sun Jun 14, 2009 4:11 pm

According to ESPN the Cleveland Cavaliers want to trade Ben Wallace and Sasha Pavlocic for Shaquille O'Neal. Would adding an aging center in Shaq bolster the Cavs roster enough to get them to the NBA Finals and eventually win it? IMO this trade would help the Suns more the Cavs...

Cavs shouldn't do it if they want to be a contender. Look what Shaq did to the once powerhouse Suns.

Nevermind, do it! I want to see a muppet Shaq and Lebron together.

What's with Shaq always being able to play with elite wing players?

Just curious...how does this help the Suns more than the Cavs? Must be a salary thing, because talent-wise Shaq is much better than Wallace and Pavlocic.

yeah this deal helps the cavs more. It would be interesting that's for sure. Lots of storylines. I don't really get why the Suns would do this, aren't shaq and Big Ben both expiring contracs and shaq is much better than Big Ben and Pavlovic.

I'm not sure how mch this helps either team for wins and losses.
I mean the Cavs had the best record in the league with this roster. Getting Shaq, at this age may not be that much of an improvement IMO. He does not even play on the second night of back-to-backs. It would be a one year gamble for the Cavs that will likely not pay off. Just ask the Suns about such gambles.
It does help the Suns salary wise though. They would save around $10 mil according to the article. Sounds like Shaq also wore out his welcome in Pheonix

I wouldn't say aging. When motivated, Shaq could still be a Top 3 center in this league. That run earlier in the season proved that. Remember that game he toasted us for like 30-15? Put him next to Lebron without much of a loss in trade and you have a team in the NBA Finals against the defending champion Lakers. That would serve for some pretty good entertainment. Kobe vs. Shaq, Kobe vs. Lebron, etc.

You guys are crazy if you don't think Shaq in Cleveland is scary.

Don't be haters. Shaq can't be as dominant as his Laker days but look how much of a difference he made on that 06 Miami team. Even though he wasn't playing great he opens up the floor because he is always a threat on the low post.

Shaq to Cleveland isn't a guaranteed title but it makes them SERIOUS contenders.

I wouldn't be surprised to see a Lakers vs Cavs finals next year.

they are a year late and a dollar short. they shouldve had him THIS YEAR, and we couldve faced BRON AND SHAQ in the finals . . . now how awesome would that be. to take them both down at once.

secondly, since they are a year late, he is a year older. and we will have an advantage with all of our guys having championship experience and speed.

Suns would get hosed in that deal, but Shaq get's the best of both worlds also. One he remains a starter that will get plenty of shots and he'll be on a contender. But they'll have to acquire more than just Shaq to improve, they're outside shooting was exposed big time in the ECF's.

Truth be told I doubt it happens, Mike Brown will be the absolute worse coach he's ever had to play for.

As for the Suns, with Amare trying to bust out and Nash hinting at playing else where they could be a yearly lottery participant for years to come. Even the Clippers wouldn't be as bad as they would.

it was a very dissapointing year for BWallace to say the least on the other hand Shaq at 37 managed to be 3rd Team all NBA and shot a career best in FG %. BWallace is done, Shaq is not. Bad trade for PHX is it goes down.

When you first think about what his best would bring, yea I kind of agree. But seriously, we'd make him play the pick n roll and a yr older Shaq, I don't see him capable of doing that.

I am looking to all the drama he'll bring to the Cavs. Personally, he's begging to be relevant again and wants to jump on the best team willing to take him.

Do you really believe the Lakers would've won the championship with Pau Gasol???? That move made the Lakers contenders.
