Just heard that the Lakers made an additional 48 million in the playoffs alone. That's in a addition to the profit/loss of the reg. season which factors in salary, overhead, expenses and any profits and or losses the team incurs.

Making this extra change will go along way to resigning the our players and offsetting any luxury cap hits.

If you build it they will come.
Cheers. — Mags

Keep Ariza, sign and trade Odom for Hinrich. I think Odom is more vital to the Lakers success, but he is going to cost more and Ariza has the higher upside.

If the team can convince Kobe and Odom to accept reduced salaries, Ariza should be put on the spot to take a bit less as well. Easier said than done to convince all three of course. Retaining Shannon Brown would then be quite possible as well; not many teams have play within systems that ideally fit his style of play.

Have to max out the years that Kobe can carry the team.

The upside of Ariza is over rated.. he lacks ball handling skills to drive to the basket.. At 26 if u cannot handle the ball then it is safe to say he will never be able to do it...

So his value is mostly on defense, that too should say team D not individual one on one D... and making those open 3 pt shots..

Ariza is and will remain a role player ... Ariza can be easily replaced..

Lamar is a must sign for us.. We got the finals last year without Ariza.. so yes Lamar is the key..

i would sign both, but if we cant, i would sign Ariza to a small contract so i fould have MLE for a role player

but i think LAL will be able to resign both these players

I think the Lakers are going to keep both. Jerry buss is a smart owner... he is going to pay the tax.

Tax starts at around 71 mil, Lakers are looking at 90+ if they make no moves and resign their 3 fa's.

Cleveland got an injury exception of 10 million for Eric Snow as insurance was paying his salary.. I think also got a few other exceptions which put their salaries close to the 75 or 76million mark..

Long time Lakers fan but my first post here.

According to forbes,

http://www.forbes.com/sportsmoney/lists ... 20250.html

2007-2008 season revenue was 191 mil
players expenses were 77 mil (coaches expenses not includes)
operating income was 48 mil (earning before interest and taxes)

other expenses were aprox. 66mil
coaches expenses (aprox. 15 mil)
aprox. left over 51 mil

This is very tight financial budget for big organization like this
Yet not include staple center lease
staffs salaries
insurances
airfares and hotels etc. etc.

Lets break down operating income
48mil
taxes and interest
30% Philip Anschutz share and others

Dr. buss family could get less than 20mil.

That's why Dr. buss shows allergic to luxury tax.

I'd say if we HAVE to choose one, it has to be Odom. Odom is our third best player on our team. Ariza on the other hand, the most I'd offer to him is MLE level money. If he wants more, A.K.A 7+ mil, than we say bye bye to him and look for a replacement. As much as it hurts, Ariza is fairly easy to replace compared to Odom. I think Ariza would look a lot worse on another team, because there wouldn't be a Kobe to give him open looks.

Odom before Ariza without a doubt.
