Ariza's agent was pissed off because according to some of the reports circulating, the Lakers wanted Artest all along.

The Lakers treated Ariza like a restricted free agent and told him to bring back an offer sheet. That's a slap in the face.

From what I sense, the Lakers just wanted to have a feel of Ariza's price in the market so they told him to find an offer and get back to him. We can say that the Lakers were not aggressive on getting Ariza's deal done and that slighted the agent, who felt that they should have gotten what they demanded outright.

I do not think that is a slap in the face unless Ariza developed a big head in the last couple of weeks.

Lakers wanted Artest all along but it was only after Yao's injury did the Lakers think that they have a chance. I guess Yao's injury influenced the stance of Kupchak.

Great thread Deep: I think Ariza's a very dumb player. He has made bad decisions in his career. He let people talk him into leaving UCLA early, now he let his agent talk him out of a great situation with his hometown team to go to a team that's in big trouble next year.

Yao ming is out for the year & you don't know what's going to happen with tracy mcgrady next year... and all for the same money he would have been getting from the Lakers. You didn't here nothing about Ariza until he came to the Lakers, he was on the magics bench. The lakers saved him...gave him a name, an now he is going to a team that don't have a chance to win next year... all because he let his agent talk him into believing that he was worth more than what he was. It's a shame he's going to be another forgotting exLaker that wish he was back home. (ASK RONNIE).

@ Clublakers, they think that David Lee is a board poster there and was a respected insider. He seems (Please Use More Appropriate Word) and whack now.

Come to think of it, I think Ariza's decision was rushed once he knew Lakers are getting Artest. I felt that Ariza and his agent had to make a deal within the same day to save face.

You only need to compare Artest's agent and David Lee. From the SC interview, Artest is visibly upset that Houston only wanted him for a one year contract. To me that is an insult to Artest, but the Agent took it well and handled his client and himself professionally from the articles and quotes that I read.

This is redemption for Mitch against getting owned in the Bynum sweepstakes.. David lee tried some cheap tricks with the Bynum deal going to the media on every turn.. It worked once because Mitch and Phil did not want to lose bynum.. but Ariza was always a dispensable and easily replaceable option..

Ariza worked for us because we avoided Portland in the post season where his lack of offense killed and we did not face Cleveland or a healthy Boston where LeBron would have bodied up Ariza or Pierce would have owned Ariza as he is not a good low post defender...

Ariza averaged 11 ppg .. not enough for his postion.. cant put the ball on the floor..

Only positive is he can get us some steals thats it... Mitch's offer was very fair...

Artest wins over Ariza any time of the day..

David Lee has destroyed Ariza's career.. thats for sure..

Yet, general manager Mitch Kupchak barely blinked when Ariza’s agent, David Lee, started talking like a tough guy, parading his client on what one rival GM called “a leverage tour.”

The Lakers don’t believe he’ll leave, Lee kept barking. Surprise, surprise: Lee didn’t think the Lakers would tell him to get lost, sign Artest and leave Ariza to take the five-year, $33 million deal in Houston he could’ve had in L.A.

“I told Mitch that it was never about the money; it was about respect,” Lee told NBA.com.

Well, take your respect and pack your client’s bags for post-Yao lottery land in Houston. Respect? Yes, there are American soldiers and missionaries in faraway lands cheering for David Lee and this noble stand for the neglected and disenfranchised everywhere. It is about respect, and God knows a $33 million offer for Ariza’s eight points and four rebounds a game rates a disgraceful act.

No, this wasn’t about the money, nor his client’s needs. This was a failed power play, an embarrassment of the highest order. Looking back, Ariza will rue the day. He’s a good player, but he’ll never be a star elsewhere. He’ll just be another player on another team.

I always wanted Artest. I just need Odom and Artest signed to breath and really unleash but I will say this, as good as Ariza was playing I wanted him gone. The reason was he was gonna be overpayed and the finals and triangle and amazzing pg Kobe made him overhyped plus the doctors said he was destined to have foot problems his whole career.
I never dreamed I would get a sf on the Lakers that I wanted for them more then RJ.

He did post there as Gumbygld, gave some inside info that proved he was legit(Ariza trade before it happened, Bynum injury updates) and then when the Bynum contract negotiations were going on people figured out who he was(Bynum and Ariza's agent). Once that happened he stopped posting since people were ripping him for trying to get Bynum a max contract and being a general douche about the situation(as he did again with Ariza's negotiations).

I seriously hope both Bynum and Ariza drop this fool, he doesn't deserve them as clients.
