I think this guy is making a mountain out of of a mole hill.

it really sounds like he is fishing for something that it is not there. everything Phil says about coming back to coach the following year he has been saying for years so nothing new there.

the whole angle of Jeanie and Phil being POd about Jim taking over sounds made up. Jeanie has always been involved in the marketing side of the business and now all of the sudden she and Phil want to take over the franchise?

I don't doubt that the Buss family have internal issues regarding the Lakers like the Bynum/Kobe issue, but that did make sense for Jeanie to be involved since it had to do with one of the biggest marketing assets in NBA. I also don't doubt that Jim will make mistakes in the future, but I don't think that the "drama" will break up the family or the Lakers.

then there is fact that Jerry announced that he was partially retiring and that Jim would be more involved unlike what the writer wrote "Jerry picked the moment to announce that he was stepping back and turning the franchise over to son Jim."

personally I think that Jeanie would make a better "captain at the helm" of the Lakers, but I don't think that Jim will f**** everything up either. I think that he will do.

That was my dismissive take too...

Lazenby writes about the Lakers... That's pretty much all he does of note...

There's not a lot to write about on that subject right now. Ergo.......

Agree with Snaq that the writer's digging for something...but I could see Jeanie Buss still running most things behind the scenes even if Jimmy's given the official title.
Thank you, Phil.

Jeanie has done a great job BUT her job i much easier.

Marketing the Lakers in LA, a basketball town w/o an NFL team and celebrities at the games.

Go Lakers
Lakers are 22-3 in OT last 6 seasons:Kobe best OT closer!

It does seem far-fetched, but Lazenby has definitely been accurate about the inner workings of the lakers before.

It's an interesting topic.
