Poll: Select your one all time LAL from H.S. or College to

Post#1 » by DubaLakers » Wed Feb 3, 2010 3:12 am

Please select one of the all time LAL who you would get (in this hypothetical) from H.S. or College to start your franchise as your first selection ever...

This was the Dan Patrick show poll question today...Curious what my Laker bretheren would say...

For me it is hard to pass on a BIG, but as unmatched as Wilt, Shaq, & Kaj were, Magic was unmatched as well, as well as versitile, plus I'm a sucker for PG's.

Dan Patrick picked KAJ, the other 3 show contributors all picked Magic.

The radio poll was over 50% Magic, everybody else had 5% to 17%. But I thought it was better to ask LAL fans cuz we know how many LAL haters are out there jacking the poll up.

Magic. I like a running offense and there's no better person to start with than Magic Johnson, the greatest PG to ever play.

I don't know.. the best player is Kobe, in my opinion. But if I was starting a team? Magic. His enthusiasm, will to win and his ability to get everyone involved is unmatched in my opinion.

Sure 24 is my favorite player ever, but we watch how many times he commands the ball and it hurts our teams overall performance AT CERTAIN TIMES; everything is resting on 24's shot making ability and it's less about the offense as a whole.

Maybe West would have been a better fit for this team a guy that can hit everything within the offense without having to create brilliance on a pallet every possesion.

Can we include not only starting a franchise, but also after 15 great player seasons becoming franchise GM and building another 5-10 rings?

How can you not go with O'neal out of college to start a franchise in today's NBA?

Interesting...no Chamberlain's?

I'll have to ask one of the older guys...why KAJ over Wilt?

i went with Shaq. just look at the tapes of his rookie season in Orlando. mean, lean, running machine.

having Shaq keeps you as a title contenders for years and years.

he IS the most dominant to ever play the game

one of the factors for me was not seeing wilt. other than that 20 seasons for kaj to wilts 13 (actually had 14 but one season only played 12 games). shaq loses out to kaj because he's missed a ton of games during his career. in kaj's 20 seasons he had one season where he played less than 70 games (74-75 65 games). while shaq had ONLY 6 seasons where he's played more than 70 games. i want my stud to play every night, not just when he's motivated enough to keep in shape.

magic's my favorite player all time but give me a big to start my franchise with any day of the week and twice on sundays.

magic is not only the best laker but imo the best player of all time. they guy could play all five positions and he made the smartest play i have ever seen in basketball. does anyone else recall the 91' conference finals against portland? i forget what game it was but it was towards the end the lakers had the lead and magic either got the board or someone gave it to him,but i remember him just rolling the ball down court, not even fast. i recall thinking to myself how dumb can this guy be,then all of a sudden i see magic pointing to the clock, saying time should have been taken off,and i sat there and thought about it and he was right, because the ball was still i bounnds. he was always my favorite but that play sealed it for me.....
Only on realgm is 27,000 points, 5 rings, 1 rs mvp and 2 finals mvp considered overrated!

he may be the strongest but shaq had to many hangups. his defense was trash. only played great when motivated,if he had a better work ethic he could have been a top 3 player ever.

Yea Shaq wouldn't be a good pick, like the guys said, he was like Vlade at times he needed to be motivated and came into camp not always in shape. I went with Magic, but for my second pick I'd take Wilt. He lead the league in assists one year I believe, he was about proving he could do it all.

If I picked out...I'd take Kobe 4th and put him at SF, get Malone with the 5th pick ;). ...Magic, Wilt, West, Kobe, Malone ;).

Magic, West, Bryant, Malone, Wilt...Damn' that's nice.
