Lakers vs. Nuggets

Post#1 » by cbrown32 » Sun Feb 7, 2010 4:08 am

The Nuggets have now smashed the Lakers twice this year, once in Denver, and once in LA (WITHOUT MELO). They should have won that series last year (notice I said should have...basketball very often comes down to the last few plays of games, and the Lakers made those plays when they needed them. BUT the Nuggets played a hell of a series, probably better than the Lakeshow), and Kenyon Martin was quoted saying that the Nuggets are a better team than the Lakers (they obviously aren't scared of us). Without an upgrade at the PG position to help defend Chauncey can we beat this team if we face them again in the playoffs? Of course we CAN, but will we? I'm not positive...I'm thinking a move for Hinrich would be a good idea...thoughts?

**Hinrich or ANYBODY else that can defend the PG position better than D-Fish/Farmar/Shannon Brown.

Every once in a while you're going to run into a team when they have a career night...
This loss doesn't mean as much as the last one to me...

That being said... We haven't shown we can beat the Nuggets or the Cavs this season... Something has to change.

To me, Kobe needs to rest... He looked wasted by the second half last night.
Pau has to do more than act like he's being more aggressive.
And Bynum has to play like he did against the Celtics every night. How the hell does Nene of all people punk our bigs?

And some combination of Sasha, Ammo, Farmar, Walton, Mbenga, etc, need to be moved for a legit Combo Gaurd.

From what I've seen so far this season, I don't think we could win a 7 game series against the Cavs and I think a Nuggets series would be scary as hell.

Thank god there's a long way to go before the finals, but we need to make sure it's us who gets better and not the other guys.
Never have rice at Hanzo's house...

Denver and Cleveland are good teams, they give us the size matchups most teams don't. There is worry about if we can beat them in a playoff series, they are good.

We'll see, the champions do it in cruch time, so far , those teams haven't shown they can do it when it counts, and we have. Will be a fun series to watch.

You are never going to convince a panicky "must trade" fan of this. It's a basic mindset. Even if the Lakers win again, he'll attribute a lot of it to luck.

Well you're definitely not dealing with a panicky must trade fan...the last trade deadline deal the Lakers made was George McCloud in 96 (maybe 97), and it's seemed to work out fine for us. I see a weakness and think we need to find an answer for it before we get bum rushed in the playoffs by someone

I blame Phil for that loss more then anything. No Melo yet he leaves Kobe out and doesn't even try to get the ball out of Chauncey's hands or but a better defender on him. Why was Sasha in the game for so long? Especially in the 4th in a tight game?

Phil seemed to be dickin around and messing with guys and messing with the other team. Dunno if he was playing mind games with our own guys, or with Karl or what, but it was a terribly coached game and I wouldn't expect a playoff game to be the same at all.

We've been competitive in one game out of four this year. The two Orlando games were very close, very close. By the way although their last game didn't indicate it, don't be surprised if Dallas can beat Denver.

As for Denver, it's not so much a lack of options that hurt it's Phil's stubborn nature. This team could be better if it was played correctly. It's almost like he's dumb-founded at times. Against Portland he threw Odom out there to replace Kobe and the defensive switches were terrible. Brown hit the floor and the team was dynamite. The stubborn nature can't happen this year.

I mean really all it takes is a Chris Duhon level player to start at PG, hit shots at a decent 3p% and that's it but it's this non-competitive loyalty to a fault that keeps this team from being even better. They're just simply not flexible. Jackson may have the pulse of the team but he doesn't play the schemes well at times and his lineups have always been terrible.
