It doesnt matter about even fouls, it all depends on when they are called. Some calls can really change the momentum..

Re: Game #58 LAkers @ Dallas 2/24/10 6:00PM
It wasn't necessarily the fouls, the traveling and other calls were big as well. They were especially bad on Drew. The travel in the 4th was either a foul or a jump ball, it was pretty obvious. His first travel looked like a pretty good post move as well where in the same situation Haywood bobbled the pass and still managed to get a reverse layup after a few steps and not get called. 6 pt diff right there with no foul shots at all... Officiating was iffy in spots, mostly thought Drew got the short end of the stick and there were a few other bad/missed calls as well. But a lot of it was our fault. Kobe didn't drive or attack hardly at all. Pau I thought should have got a couple calls, but didn't, but he was really weak all game and disappeared for a while. (Also I thought the out of bounds review was off Haywood, looked to me like he deflected it twice, not Pau, but still another weak rebound...) The whole team was rather lazy and soft on the boards and for most of the game.
Rebounding and at times lazy defense cost us. Fish looked terrible as well, Kobe forced a few shots and he looked Wade-esque coasting for half the game, but I don't remember many time of why did he shoot that, where as I remember Fish just jacking 4 or 5 really forced shots without even a look at the post. He threw a pass directly to Dirk and then proceeded to skip a wide open shot only to dribble in, do nothing, dribble all the way out and give the ball to Kobe with 4 secs on the clock 30 ft from the hoop... for being this consistent vet that makes things run better he sure makes a ton of really bad decisions...
I'd be more worried if it really looked like we cared and lost, but at the same time this nonchalant attitude has shown up in a lot of big games and that is kind of disturbing. I hope its just post chip hangover and saving it for the playoffs when they know it counts, otherwise we could be in some trouble. I'm thinking though that at this point these guys can only generate so much energy and effort for a reg season game. 2 straight trips to the finals and a chip grants you that leway I guess for a somewhat older team...

Just because Bynum loses the ball twice in one quarter doesn't make them fouls. The Lakers should never have got outrebounded by Dallas considering Najera was playing backup center. Mavs played without Butler and Dampier and the Mavs still won. DIRK and Terry simply outplayed Kobe and Pau on the offensive end and Marion shut down Kobe in the 4th. Lakers are still in 1st so I don't understand why all you Lakers fans think this team is so atrocious. You've only lost 15 games all season and are 5GB ahead of anyone in the West.
P.S. DIRK dirtied you!
Man go somewhere with this garbage. You obviously don't come here much. The refs are the last thing we turn to when we lose. Total calls don't equate when at times they are momentum changing calls. I feel we lost this game because of rebounding. PERIOD! Bad calls come with the territory sometimes, but on our board if the refs are mentioned it's usually valid.

Momentum changing calls? How about the call in the final minute where Terry got called for pushing off Fisher after Fisher was holding his arm went Terry was trying to use screen? That was a missed call and then Terry gets called for a foul and the momentum swing the Lakers way. And yes, rebounding was why you lost because the Mavs purely outhustled you. Najera was the backup center so the Lakers should've just boxed out and been fundamental. Refs called the fouls pretty well. They let the players play. Fans in the NBA today don't realize that half these calls wouldn't have even been called in the 80's when the Pistons were wailing on people, and the Celtics would clothesline Rambis and only get a personal. Basketball is a physical sport and just because Bynum doesn't get 2 whistles all game that's the reason why the Lakers lost??? Unbelievable!
