Hypothetically, Who would you rather have?

Post#1 » by WorthyBlitz42 » Thu Mar 4, 2010 5:42 am

Pipe dream thread here. Say these two teams specifically want Andrew Bynum, Orlando Magic and Houston Rockets. Both of them are willing to trade any players on their team, specifically their centers. Rockets will guarantee that Yao will stay injury free from his career to the end of it.

Who would you rather have Dwight or Yao on the Lakers is basically what I'm trying to say?

It's not even something that would require any thought

I would say so, at least for fitting this team.

If Yao is injury free for the rest of his career? I'll pick Yao in a second and run back to LA.

Yao intrigues more for the sheer fact that LA would have so many international stars. Throw in David Beckham as our point guard while we're at it.

But Dwight is my choice. Rebounds, defends, unselfish player, and Lakers really need to steal another big name center from Orlando anyway. We're due.

First lets forget "For the rest of his career" because with the way Yao's going, that might be next season.

Let's change it to 6 seasons...

So if they both could be garunteed to be healthy and still contributing near their peak for the next 6 seasons...

I still pick Dwight, because if he came to the Lakers I think he'd see that it was time to stop the GrabAssing and develop his game. If he worked with Pau and Kobe, I think he could be much more well-rounded and might become a true offensive and Defensive force.

I think Yao is as good as he can be.

Since it's hypothetical, I'd go with Yao Ming who has the range to allow Pau to operate more in the post (which neither Bynum or Dwight offer). He's a fantastic free throw shooter so you know he can be in the game when it's on the line, particularly in the post season.

We're already the best defensive team in the league and we'd improve on that by swapping Yao/Bynum. Sure we'd be even better defensively with Dwight, but we get so much better on offense and don't have a late-game liability (except for Gasol, but what can you do?).

If we assume that both guys are injury free and able to play 40 MPG (absurd, I know), I'd take Yao. The Lakers probably would as well since it would bring in a bit more revenue.

I think the answer is..who is the better passer? Shaq did well in the triangle because he is a very good passer for a center (under rated) I don't know who is the better passer between Yao and Dwight but whoever is, I'd take that one.

Yao is the better passer, at least so it seems to me. Dwight still isn't that great at it, he gets some decent passes at time but he's awfully inconsistent.

That being said, I always thought Kobe's perfect sidekick would be Yao, Not Gasol.

Depends on what you want?

Long term security:
Dwight 24 yo on opening day next yr
locked up through 2013 (16.6, 18.0, 19.5)

Salary flexibility:
Yao 30 yo on opening day next yr
expiring contract (17.69)

I'll take D12 with his lack of injury history and penchant for D and Rebs.

Yeah I'll take Howard over Yao. I rather go for the power and on top of that stealing another powerful center for them will be another slap in the face after slaping them around in the finals
