Is this actually true?

I'm going strictly off memory, but this is the same injury he suffered back in 2008, no? If so, that was going to require surgery and a couple of months off.

Which is why he didn't do it; we were in a fight for home court, and he decided to gut it out. Then he got used to it, played in the Olympics and realized it wasn't that big of a deal.

But that was a pinky compared to an index finger, IIRC. Big difference, obviously.

EDIT -- You are correct. Guess it depends on the severity and location of the injury.

Most often, an avulsion fracture is treated as a soft-tissue injury. For example, if a patient has an avulsion fracture of the hamstrings attachment on the pelvis (an ischial tuberosity avulsion), it can be treated in a similar manner to a hamstring tear. Only in avulsion fractures where the bone is pulled more than several centimeters from its normal position does surgery need to be considered. Usually these injuries can be treated without surgery.

I would take a 4 fingered Kobe over any shooter other than Ray Allen any day.

Decent game by Kobe tonight but I really wish he wasn't playing with a messed up hand.

I always knew that his fingers might cause us a championship. Hopefully we still win it this year and he fixes it during the summer. That's like the best case scenario.

The worst case scenario is if we lose in the playoffs and then he plays for team USA in the summer.
