+1

Agreed.

With that said, I'd love to see Raymond Felton at the 1 and Kyle Korver or Jason Kapono or Mike Miller on the bench.

Wishful thinking.

The Lakers need (count 'em) three new guards.

Shannon Brown is supposed to fill the role of fourth guard who plays backup SG on offense but can guard PGs and SGs equally well. His role is supposed to be primarily as a defensive specialist.

When I say I don't mind resigning him, I mean resigning him to play in the same (supposed defensive)capacity (as a fourth guard, defensive specialist).

I don't in any way think he should be a starter or primary backup.

Ideally we have a worldly starter at PG with a pure shooting backup guard to spell both both SG and PG plus a fourth guard who is a defensive specialist on both guard spots.

The ironic thing is that the Lakers lack young athleticism.

Don't be so quick to throw Shannon under the bus, the dude is playing through a serious injury to his shooting hand.

I, for one, never thought he was anything more than slightly above average defensively. He has slow lateral movement, just like Jordan. Neither of these guys will ever be able to guard quick PG's because of this.

That said, a healthy Shannon is not at all a bad option at BACKUP PG or SG.

I like Shannon at 2.2 mil (what he is scheduled to make) as the 4th guard. Anything outside of that salary/role, then goodbye.

O.T.: San Diego PACERS!? Really I was thinking its time to revisit the idea of a St.Louis Franchise.

yeah! I'm feeling Mike Miller off the bench don't know if thats pure pipe or what though.

Yup. Miller will thrive off the bench. A second unit featuring Odom and Miller, will be a very nice upgrade.

But ideally, I think it would be nice to also have someone a bit bigger than Miller, who is willing to take it to the hole hard. I like Brown's athleticism, but I miss Ariza sometimes.

right now just about anybody can help out our bench! miller would work well too imo. miller, odom, and a good slasher would be ideal. maybe a tony allen would fit in there. i dont think this would be too bad of a second unit

fisher/brown?/new PG (hinrich? blake? felton? foye? who knows..)
kobe/allen/miller
artest/miller/walton?
gasol/odom/powell
bynum/mbenga

and some other pieces of course.. but we would get a new starting PG, keep fish around for his experience and knowledge of the game.. we would get our shooter in miller, and we would get our defensive minded/slasher player in allen.

What are the chances of Adam Morrison becoming a stud over the offseason?

I wish SHannon had shown more improvement defensively. I was hoping for him to become a guard that could prevent the opponents penetration and play physically against the bigger point guards in the WC.
He has not shown that this year so far.

dont we all! lol

hopefully we can bring someone in that can accomplish what we thoughttt brown would be able to do. i would bring him back next year, but only for the right price.. if he asks for too much then dont even bother, use the money on someone else.

i dont mind keeping shannon around.. as long as its for 2-2.5 mil/yr.. anything more and we could get a different player.. we could use some fresh blood.

Can't really blame Shannon for wanting to opt out with the CBA due to expire after next season. A journeyman like himself has to look out for his best interest. The problem he may find is that there really isn't much of a market for him. His offense has tailed off badly recently and he hasn't developed into the defensive stopper many anticipated.
