There is no return.
Those Bridges were Burned, and Shaq doesn't know how to swim.

The Skyhook wrote:I'm actually not against the idea. Getting Shaq for cheap would be a solid deal. I've said it before that Gasol/Odom and Bynum/Shaq would be a great big man rotation. Nobody would ever be prepared for the match ups. We could throw so many different looks at teams it wouldn't even be funny.
Shaq off the bench also means rest and it can help solidify a bench. It would be a true luxury running 2 bigs like Lamar and Shaq off the bench. His presence would also help keep bench's tempo similar to the starting units because Shaq isn't a high tempo kind of guy. An advantage to that would mean Derek Fisher could play in a system like that and we could get him back for cheap. Even at his point in his career, Shaq > Farmar + Brown.
I do not see Shaq coming for the vet min though. He still is serviceable enough to make more money than just a vet min.
I agree with all of this Skyhook, but he may be back because of all the talk of getting his jersey retired. If the Cavs don't win it all, look for him to be back being a solid back up for Drew. Then we could keep LO & Pau @ the 4. That would be the biznis!

glad to see there are some supporters of this idea.. lol
maybe it doesnt have to be next year that he comes back.. maybe its the year after, or the year after that (idk how much longer than that he will be playing) but im just sayin... if came back to us, even for one season before he retired, it would help out our bench.. IMO.. and the bench is one of our biggest problems.. so why not fill our BIG problem with a BIG guy haha just a thought

LOL..nice!

You are all missing one point. It doesn't matter of shaq is willing or if it helps the lakers. kobe's not gonna allow it, so it has zero chance

F*** Shaq. His time gone from here has not covered up the trouble that he put this franchise through. If you want to sub him for Jermaine in those scenerios at the vet mininmum then fine. We need to reconstruct the bench but not at the cost of dealing with him.

Would you guys take a cheap Jermaine O'neal?

kobe wouldn't let it happen, dr. buss wouldn't let it happen, and david lee would have a media marathon demanding a trade for his client.

We should sign both Shaq and Jermaine for the vet mins, then trade LO for a PG.
Then when Pau and Bynum get a little tired Phil can just sit in his chair and yell out "Send in the O'Neals!" and we'll see 5 mins of the O'Neal twin towers.
This is the best post ever.

If we win Shaq is back.
If Cleveland wins Shaq stay w/ LeBron
If the Spurs win Shaq is w/ Spurs or Lakers
If the Magic win Shaq retires or goes to Lakers
If anyone else wins who knows what Shaq does

Lakers are 22-3 in OT last 6 seasons:Kobe best OT closer!

Re: Chances of the Diesel coming back to LaLa Land??
I hope we get him as a backup. Our already strong frontline would be absolutely killer with him coming off the bench.
Having said that, it's more important that we get our PG situation straightened out.

Re: Chances of the Diesel coming back to LaLa Land??
I wouldn't welcome him back. Unless you are suffering from nostalgia of some sort than there really isn't a great enough reason for wanting to him back either. I have no choice but to assume some of you guys have been stricken by a fever with a heart on obsession to see big foot end his career in a Lakers uniform. Get better soon. Because that type of delusional day dreaming isn't worth it, guys. The positives of having him back don't out weight the negatives in having him for 40 games a season while struggling to regain health in time for our playoff push next year.
I say no again and again. Emphatically.

I would bring him in for the vet minimum and let him back up Bynum (or Pau if Bynum is traded) for 12-18 mpg. He already knows the triangle offense and his big body would compliment the finesse play of Pau and Bosh (if he is aquired). Just the fact that he knows the triangle is a huge plus.

Re: Chances of the Diesel coming back to LaLa Land??
Shaq would LOVE to play in LA next year, though I really see him signing for the MLE with the Mavs to try and help "the great Dirk Nowitzki (the phrase Shaq will use when talking about Irk)" win his first title and to unite with his good buddy Cuban.
Personally I don't see the Cavs beating the Celtics this year, let alone the Magic, and I think Lebron will hang around with Cleveland and sign a 3 year extension ... though if he goes anywhere I'd get on the Nets and I would say if they get the #1 pick and are able to trade Devin Harris for more cap space, Lebron will sign with the Nets.
Now, if we do trade Bynum for a Bosh or any other non-center, than we will need a legit center and Shaq would make perfect sense ... but ... I could see us signing Jermaine O'Neal before Shaq as he's Kobe's buddy.

AI, i like the way you think lol
shaq goin to the mavs is given that dirk resigns, which i dont see why he wouldnt.. it would be odd seeing him in another uniform haha im really surprised the mavs didnt do better this year. they have a lot of talent on that team..
i still think shaq would be great for us

No way would Shaq come here if we win the title, not unless he can start ... which is why a trade with Philly for Dalembert, Iggy and Jrue makes sense ... Shaq could start and Dally would be his back-up.
{quote]If Cleveland wins Shaq stay w/ LeBron
No way! If Cleveland wins the title this year, Lebron is gone, book it. Lebron is determined to win ONE title in Cleveland and than bolt for NY or Brooklyn, period.
If the Spurs win Shaq is w/ Spurs or Lakers
Spurs have no shot at winning realistically and if they do, Shaq would NOT sign with them ... he'd sign with the Mavs
If the Magic win Shaq retires or goes to Lakers
Shaq will be a Mav next year most likely.
If anyone else wins who knows what Shaq does
Shaq and Irk will lead Dallas to the conference inals next year and get beat by the Lakers, than Shaq qill probably retire.

Re: Chances of the Diesel coming back to LaLa Land??
everyone talks about the celtics and how they are getting old.. but the lakers are not too far behind them.. pau, kobe, ron and lamar have been around for a while.. some not as long as others obviously.. but.. the point is that these guys arnt going to be able to produce what they can now for years to come.. Lakers need to get younger and need to bring in fresh blood to back up these guys while they still have gas in the tank.. im not saying go load up with rookies.. but get some younger players that can give you quality minutes and maybe eventually take the spot of our vets.
within the next season or two.. LA will not be able to compete with teams like the young Thunder.. they will just run till we get tired and take advantage of us.. if the Lakers dont do something this offseason.. we might see that happening sooner than we expected.. they already threatened us this year.. as an 8 seed..
we have a great team.. but we just need to get more well rounded and we will be able to compete for years to come.
if the mavs keep dirk and sign shaq they will one tough team to beat, not they wernt with the squad they have now.. LA for sure has to do something if the mavs make that deal because i dont know if we would be able to take them with the players they would have.
