I did that radio created Hypothetical a week or so ago Durant or Dwight...I selected Dwight, the vote was about 50/50...
Your starting your new franchise the 31st NBA team located in New Mexico. Special rule you can pull any player of any team for your first selection. Do you all take LBJ?
Not me, again I take D12 the chances of me getting a stud scoring PG is pretty good they are becoming easier and easier to find these days vs. finding a stud Center then I have my inside and out for years to come. On the other hand...
You take LBJ you don't have a PG or a C, your SF becomes your floor general. It's just my preference.

Re: Another Hypothetical...
I would take the same route. Fill in the needs at the 5 and 1. Having these two positions covered, would guarantee me to be competitive.
I would have Dwight Howard accompanied with Derrick Rose. Williams would be an option, but I adore Rose because he's thrived in the playoffs from the moment he entered the big lights posting great productivity, never shying away, and is already much more youthful. It's easier to build now aswell. The pieces to go after now become less stressful to find as oppose to having to the right pieces around Durant or a James type player. With Rose /Dwight as the corner stones, having a versatile big man at the 4 who can stretch the floor freeing up the post for Dwight a little is my next task. Blatche is good defensive big and an underrated passer so I put him in the slot. A good shooting guard and small forward, complimentary pieces follow after. Someone similar in the J-Rich mold who can space the floor.
PG Rose
SG Gordon
SF Battier
PF Blatche
C Howard
Bench:
B. Haywood
M. Miller (free agency)
J. Jack
J. Thompson
Scrubs
This team would compete immediately with the right coaching staff, and can be competitive for along time with great flexibility while staying reasonably away from tax luxury hell.

I'd take LBJ. As much as I love D Howard and know the imprtance of having a great center, he is not on the same level as LBJ in terms of impacting a team. In the first round of the playoffs serie, it has been shown that Howard can still be stopped due to a relatively poor skillset. LBJ, on the other hand, simply can't be stopped by anything outside of injuries. I believe that having the best player or players wins championships, no matter what position they play in. Kobe has 4 rings while playing a relatively "unimportant" position while Kidd has no ring playing the most important position.

LBJ. Why? because he probably sells more sneakers, has more fans, and is more of a global icon to bring in the money.
Winning will come along the way.

for a state like this you would prefer an entertaining athlete.
talent wise it's clearly bron
the only advantage howard has is the "bigs our easier to build around" thing. but it's not even hard to build a team with lebron being the 1st option.

if Lebron had Dwights supporting cast and howard had lebrons supporting cast. Dwight would be out 2nd round. It's easier to build around lebron.
