The crazy thing about this is that the Bulls and the Cavs are recruiting Phil without knowing whether Lebron is gonna be on either of those teams. It May take until mid July for anyone to find out what Lebrons decision is.

And to Magic1fan i'm a Lakers fan and i'm saying this the Bulls and Lakers weren't seen as "winners"before Phil became the coach of those teams they were both known as underachievers. Its really all about finding the right situation for Phil he doesn't at first look into the soul of the team. I still think Phil will comeback I think the Lakers will give him a 2yr contract in the summer at a cheaper price but not as low as some reports are saying I think he'll get 8 or 9 million a year.

Phil has said repeatedly how much he loves living at the beach and has a hard time with cold climates.
He's been with Jeanie for a while now which would pretty much have to end unless Jeanie would agree to no longer work for the Lakers.
I honestly think his first comment a few weeks ago was the honest one.... That if he didn't coach the Lakers, it'd be because he was ready to retire.
He has a hard time getting around anymore, he looks a bit frail in fact. And he doesn't like traveling anymore... Which leaves out the "living in LA and traveling to Clev/Chicago" for work scenario.
Plus he said he hated Cleveland the city a bunch of different ways.
I think he might be intrigued by coaching LeBron and being given carte blanche to create a championship team back in Chicago, but I think he knows it would require a 2-3 year commitment on to build a team in Chicago (I think there's 0 chance of him going to Clev) and I just don't think he's ready to say he'll coach for another 2-3 years.
I think the Lakers would like him to take a bit less money, and I think he is close to retiring. But ultimately I think LA is the best fit for him and I don't think taking only a single year contract is much of an issue for him.
Phil is mercurial... So him leaving to finish his career back in Chicago wouldn't surprise me... Even despite all the reasons I don't think it makes sense. Sometimes I think he just does things to be a _____________(fill in the blank with your own words).
But I think it's huge long-shot and more of a marketing gimmick by Chi to try to convince LeBronze to go there than it is an honest attempt to pry Phil from LA. That's if it even really happened.

ESPN has completely jumped the shark with their sensationalism (lebron tracker, tebow tracker, and now this). They hire characters, not journalists. I long for a day when there is another option for my sports addiction.

Hip replacements, creaky knees, and shoulder arthritis do not mix with sub-freezing climates.

i personally think he retires after this season.
should that be the case, theres only 1 coach in my book.
an ex-LAKER. and a longstanding coach with experience in this league. knows the triangle inside/out

and oh yeah, theres a storyline to this. a philosophy or philosophical "punchline" to this whole plot.
which is the reason why I believe he retires after this last contract

if these teams are contacting phil is that considered tampering since he's still under contract with la?
Thank you, Phil.

Yeah just caught that "back channels" quote twice from ESPN. Phil's just using these teams for leverage with Buss.
Thank you, Phil.

Phil about reported Bulls feelers: "I have no -- at all -- desire to go back and coach the Bulls."

I honestly think he wants to retire after Kobe's decline. Lakers need to lock him up. Glad to hear he won't go to the Bulls, had he went there then so would Lebron.

The only reason Phil should not be brought back is because Phil doesn't want to come back.
That said, I wouldn't mind seeing B Shaw as head coach.

I'm up for it
After Kobe & Phil win 3 more; not including this finals either....

even the teams that aren't even close to being championship caliber and know that they aren't are still competing like they can
