Artest 2008 @ Boston: "I can help Lakers win a Championship"

Post#1 » by Jordan-esque » Fri Jun 18, 2010 10:31 pm

Boston -- Following the Lakers’ Game 6 loss to the Celtics that decided the NBA Championship, Ron Artest, who was still with the Sacramento Kings at that time, had attended the decidig Game 6 in Boston, and afterwards burst into the off-limits Lakers' locker room to tell Lakers head coach Phil Jackson he thought he would be a good fit for his team. Phil Jackson recounts:

"Ron Artest came into our locker room and just said, ‘Coach, I can help your team, I can get that championship for the Lakers.' I just smiled and told him 'Thank you Ron, that was really nice. We’ll see what happens.'"

Artest then proceeded towards the locker room where Kobe Bryant was, and told Bryant the same thing.

"For the last 2 years, Kobe has already known about Ron’s intentions," recounted Jackson. "The last 2 years."

Los Angeles -- Lakers forward Ron Artest has always taken the blame after every Lakers loss upon himself. But after the Lakers' decisive clinching Game 7 win over the Boston Celtics, Lakers coach Phil Jackson had this to say about his enigmatic defensive forward:

"No question, Kobe Bryant is the MVP of the whole series, but Ron Artest was the most valuable player tonight."

Yeah, will it be before or after our parade for our back to back championships? The second of which we won last night? Did you watch it... It was awesome. We beat the Celtics.

Pierce is two years older than he was at that time. It's a little easier to guard him today.

So will the "Ron was 2 years younger, too" argument work too? Spose not...

Love him or hate him, the crazy SOB did what he said he'd do.

Wow..he predicted that if he landed on a team with arguably the best player in the NBA with one of the best big men, the best coach in NBA history and one of the best young centers in the league that he could win a ring...

What a soothsayer...

All I'm saying is : "QUEENSBRIDGE !!!" :D

Sorry to Ron for not believing in him until the playoffs started, but the Oklahoma series changed my mind.

Theres alot of keys all over the place, but Ron was a big key defensively. We got raped by paul pierce the last time wefaced these guys, and had no one to step up and stop him. He was making a living at the freethrow line on us, but ron artest put a HALT to that. Without someone slowing down and clamping down on their main weapon, we dont get it done this year. The front office move, coupled with arizas agent' incompetence, really paid off!
