6 players to sign and around 10-13 million to spend
Cap was at 91 million last year. Right now they have 81million invested in 7 players. In order to hit 13 roster players they would have to sign 6 players at around 10 million. I suggest a slight increase because they might save big money considering Phil might be gone. Maybe 95 million max.
That is assuming Shannon Brown is not back with his player option.
Must things to do is sign Fisher--one year 4 million. I also love the idea of having Radja Bell on board he might be part of a MLE split w/ him and Steve blake making 2.9 million a piece per for say two year deals. They could then draft a Center for limited minutes for Bynum. Either Zoubak for Duke or Jerome Jordan from Tulsa or the big kid Dexter Pittman from Texas. Then I could see maybe Crittenton coming back if they can't draft somebody comparable w/ either of their second round picks.
That would leave a return of Powell/Benga for cheap or offering the LLE to somebody like a Craig Smith.
Fish, Blake, Critt
Kobe, Bell, Sasha
Drew, Pittman
Gasol, Odom, Powell
Artest, Luke

FYI, the LLE is bi-annual exception, only can use it every 2 years. Already used it last year to sign Shannon Brown.

Actually I think the LLE and the Bi are two different things but I might be wrong.

Re: 6 players to sign and around 10-13 million to spend
- Re-sign Derek Fisher (2 years, 6 million, 3m per season)
- Re-sign Josh Powell (2 years, veteran minimum, 900k)
- Sign Kwame Brown to veteran minimum (1.1m)
- Sign Steve Blake (3 year contract, starting at 3.5m)
- Sign Javaris Crittenton (3 year contract, starting at 1.5m with player option for 3rd season)
- Sign Rasual Butler (veteran minimum, 2 year contact, 1.1m)
= 11.1m
PG: Steve Blake/ Derek Fisher/ Javaris Crittenton
SG: Kobe Bryant/ Sasha Vujacic/
SF: Ron Artest/ Rasual Butler/ Luke Walton/
PF: Pau Gasol/ Lamar Odom/ Josh Powell
C: Andrew Bynum/ Kwame Brown/
- We keep Derek Fisher and his ability in the post-season, while surrendering most of the regular season duties to Steve Blake and the young legs of Javaris Crittenton. Steve Blake gets 3.5 of the MLE.
- With Javaris, we get a guy who already has the concepts of the triangle down, having spent half a season in it. Signing him to a 3 year contract, with part of the MLE gets us a possible PG for the future.
- Again, Kwame knows the system and with 10-15 minutes a game, he can provide tough man defense and him in this role would suit him much better. He wouldn't have the pressures of being a major part of the team on him. It's also a vet minimum contract and teams over the cap can over those to fill out the roster.
- Rasual Butler (shot making, defense) and Josh Powell (re-signed) to veteran minimum contracts. Josh is quietly one of the leaders on this team. Remember, we don't have bird rights on Powell as he signed with us as a free agent and has only spent 2 years with the team. That's why he's on a vet minimum contract.

Only 3 exceptions, the MLE, the Biannual Exception and Vet's Minimum. I'm pretty sure the LLE is the same as the bi-annual.

Yep. WIth the MLE, a team can offer that every season. Usually it's around 5.2-5.6 million, we'll see whenever the figures actually come out.
LLE can be offered once every two years. If you recall, we first used this on Shammond Williams. Shannon Brown received it last year as he didn't have Bird Rights with us.
With vet minimum's, it goes up depending on how long a player has been in the league. Goes as high as 1.1-1.4m, I think. You can offer as many of those as you want to fill out a roster.

Given what he did the last time he was on a contract year I think we should fall in love with his expiring.... then say goodbye to him

Re: 6 players to sign and around 10-13 million to spend
LLE does not exist. Remove it from your vocabulary.
BAE not available - used on Shann Brown, and not available even if he walks. Pretend it doesn't exist.
MLE will be 6.022 to 6.104 (dep on final b.r.i.) this year according to cap guru milminman. Its not a straight % of cap like the max contract is, so it still goes up.
Vet min is based on yrs of experience. For instance, 10+ year pro like Kurt Thomas is 1.38 ish, 7yr pro like Mbenga will be 1.07, 4th year pro like Critt is 855k, something like that. You can find in Larry Coons cap faq.

Why Kwame? As a Laker's fan, I can't watch stone hands anymore...almost as bad as Smush. Cheaper & easier to draft a crappy center in the draft with the 43rd pick. At least with the 43rd pick, there is a 1% he might be good. We all know what Kwame is. The rest of your post sounds alright.

I think we had our fill of Kwame Brown. He only average 3 points and 3 rebounds last year and has gone down almost every year since he was traded from the Lakers. I rather resign Powell or someone out there that has hands to catch the ball. Plus he made over 7 million the last few years. We have nothing near his price tag to sign.

Re-Sign Derek Fisher 2 years 5m
Sign Steve Blake 2yrs 6m
Sign Tracy McGrady for Vet Min(about 1 m)
Re-Sign DJ Mbenga and Josh Powell for Vet Min.
PG-Derek Fisher/Steve Blake
SG-Kobe Bryant/Sasha Vujacic
SF-Ron Artest/Tracy McGrady/Luke Walton
PF-Pau Gasol/Lamar Odom/Josh Powell
C-Andrew Bynum/DJ Mbenga
T-Mac will give us scoring off the bench and someone other than Kobe that can get to the rim. Steve Blake will back up Fisher and will allow him to rest before playoffs. Other than that the team will be the same. Kobe and Bynum will be healthy for next season. Artest will become more comfortable in the triangle. Our bench will also be a lot deeper and more consistent with Blake and T-Mac. Roster is better than it was last season and will have a good chance of a three peat especially if Phil Jackson comes back which I think he will.

If they do sign Raja Bell for the minimum, expect Earl Watson to be next as they're bargain-shopping no question about that. As far as SF we may even see an addition like Travis Outlaw to play the backup swing position at SF/PF with his three-point shot.
Not a bad group.
