These two are replacing a -6.6 and -11.0 PER duo of Morrison and Powell (in garbage time primarily). There's a good chance they'll stick. A really good chance.

We just drafted Baby Ariza.

Mitch was really high on Ebanks. This is a video of after drafting Ebanks.

I think Ebanks was the right choice. I would really like to see the Lakers hold on to him and develop him as a player. If he can be anything like Ariza was for the Lakers then we can look back at this draft pick and say Mitch struck gold.

Apparently Ron and Lamar know the kid too.

Ebanks guarded the opposing teams best player, including if he was a PG.

I'm more than happy with Ebanks. Hopefully his defense translates into the league. The guy was like Ariza with Odom's length in college. Phil extended Fish a lot by relieving him as the primary ball handler, if we can throw Ebanks on the point guards every night... :D

I'm familiar with Caracter mostly from the media obsession with following middle school NBA prospects. Not convinced he'll last in the league. In fact, I'd rather keep Powell. We'll see.

Ebanks is going to be a defender only for a few years. He can't shoot.

And his wingspan is average for his height, so that takes away from his defensive ability since he was assumed to have a great wingspan.

Ariza was a terrible shooter. But was a lock down defensive stopper. Was never known to gaurd the best player on the opposing team.

Ebanks has horrible shooting range. Also known as a lock down defensive stopper. Is known for gaurding the opposing team's best player.

Almost same can be said for Corey Brewer. They are all alike. Only thing different is the Ebanks came with a cheaper price tag!

Mitch has made a great move. Not only has he covered the bases with help for Walton and Artest. Mitch has replaced Ammo and solidified our defense should Brown leaves. Mitch is ahead of the game. One step ahead and one step beyond the compettition.

This is a good move if Brown doesn't come back.

If Brown returns, with Ebanks, it limits the number of veteran guys we can sign to ONE as opposed to TWO (because of Ebanks).

PLEASE don't get me wrong. I think Ebanks can be a special defender and will eventually learn how to shoot, but knowing that we will only carry 13 guys and that Brown could possibly opt in, I would have liked for us to have signed two veteran (near) minimum players as as opposed to just one now.

Just heard on the radio that Lakers may have had a chance to move up to take Vasquez if they had given up both picks in a trade. Hrrrrmmmm I know its talks show speculation but it still hurts my soul.... :upset:

We can still sign two veterans can't we? One for the perimeter and the 2nd would be a big like JO or Brown.

^Maybe, yes, and no.

Maybe the Lakers keep Ebanks (w/Brown in) and put Ebanks at spot number 14. However, do you really think they'll carry 14 guys? Really? No; they're carrying 13.

Yes, one veteran will be a big, versatile guard.

No, the second veteran signed won't be a bigman ... it'll be a PG.

But it's a moot point though, kowing the Lakers, they will only sign one other veteran (besides Critt).

I don't mind them being cheap but when you are a million or two away from having a "great" team I don't see the sense in pinching on 2-3 million when that same money increases your chances at another ring.

Case in point; Robert Horry.

If the Lakers had've signed Horry to a modest contract to be Karl Malone's backup, we would not have had to watch Slava Medvedenko start for us in the Finals against the Wallaces and we probably beat Detroit and have 17 rings already.

But that team lost because they saved about 3 million by letting him go and allowing (cheaper, younger) Medvedenko to be the ironman HOFer's backup.

You gotta pay attention to detail.

That was stupid and cheap and lazy then and it'd be just as bad now, even if Shannon Brown opts in, if we don't go ahead and sign Bell for pennies and sign a PG I'll be through.

i wouldnt call ariza a lockdown defender. he was great at playing free safety because he would shoot the gap so effortlessly

but he was first choice because the lakers couldnt afford to make kobe spend all his energy on defense.

lets not get too high on this kid before we see him in action in a lakers uni first.

Scheyer really does have T-Rex syndrome...wow. He's 6'6" with a 6'3" wingspan...wtf?
