We have a need at the point or for a combo guard that could start for us...
We also have a lot of holes to fill on the Bench...

So the only way moving Odom makes sense is if we moved him and some filler for a starting point guard, or if we got a couple of quality bench players in return...

That way we either improve our starting lineup and move Fish to the bench which makes up for losing Odom, or we fill out the bench with maybe a shooter and a big or something like that... Either way it's a net improvement and possible savings overall in a time when we're afraid to use our MLE to bring in a Mike Miller type player...

It's as much about the realities of our payroll as it is about improving our squad and Odoms inconsistencies...

So we're not looking to improve Odom's role necessarily with a similar player, we're looking at him as maybe our only sacrifice-able trade piece that could bring us a few pieces to fill some needs.

If the perfect deal isn't there though, we roll with LO and hope we can light a fire under him when we need him.

imo, odom is a lot more important than a starting point guard.

That's understandable because the triangle doesn't necessarily need a true PG. If Odom had a different mind set he would be the 2nd most important player on our team.

10 points/ 10 rebounds/ 3.5 assists/ 1 steal/ 1 block and he was the primary ball handler/initiator for a back to back championship team (at a reasonable salary of 8.5 million). The Lakers should be able to get something good for him if they plan on trading him. If the triangle goes away, I definatly would explore dealing him for a starting point guard.
