I hope Phil stays and goes for the 3-peat.
During that year, give a more active role to BShaw and actually have him coach some games during the regular season.
Then retire after next year and let Shaw take over.

I have a feeling that if Phil retires, Byron Scott would be on the short list of replacements, if not THE replacement. That would send Brian Shaw to Cleveland to teach the triangle.

Essentially - Scott is only in Cleveland if Phil doesn't retire or James stays. If Phil retires and Lebron stays in Cleveland - Scott will coach Cleveland and Shaw the Lake Show. If Phil retires and Lebron leaves, Scott will coach the Lake Show and Shaw will probably coach the Cavs.

ESPN is reporting that from all indications from the exit meetings with the players, Phil wants to come back.. Sounds like money is the issue though. If for some reason phil doesnt come back, Brian Shaw it the leading candidate because he knows the triangle. Word is if Byron Scott is waiting to see if the Lakers job will be open...that he needs to go ahead and take the Cavs job becaue Shaw is next in line. Thats what I heard watching ESPN this morning.

As long as the new coach teaches Artest how to run a fast break, I think we'll be ok.

I am sure it is a money thing...Buss and Phil are playing poker...again.

Last time, Phil actually won...team had a depleted roster and needed Phil's stability, so Buss had to pay him the $$$ to bring him back.

This time - the roster is a lot better. I would rather see the money spent on players than Phil if bringing back Phil would mean not using the MLE, etc.

I think the team would still have a great opportunity to three - peat without Phil, as the team, especially Kobe, would be motivated to prove they can win without him.

I also take this stance because I would like to see Scott as our coach and if not, I think Shaw would also do a good job.

If I'm B.Shaw I don't touch that Cavs job. Now if he want's to get his feet wet as a head coach then yeah take it,but all they're going to do if he doesn't win is make him the fall guy. And we all know LeBron won't be there anyway. I'm calling it......he's signing with the Bulls.

Shaw is better suited to take this job if it becomes open, I use to support Byron but seeing as how we just squeezed off 2 titles with the Triangle.........ehh no Bryon can't get this job. We know he won't run it and Kobe isn't playing in any other system. Don't make sense at this stage of his career either.

The Cavs job will be hard to fill with an experienced coach, they only want that job if LeBron is there.

Why not just promote Jim Cleamons to Head Coach?

He has waaaay more experience than Brian Shaw. Cleamons goes back to Phil's Chicago days, and is not a "rah-rah" type of guy.

I think he could make the transition more seamlessly than anyone else.

We must keep the triangle! It makes D-Fish, Pau, and even Kobe better.
