Word is he was picked so he could be traded to Denver, according to Chad Ford's draft analysis.

You guys are far too judgmental for a guy who will likely not make the team. He may be D-League or picked up elsewhere.

Aki wrote:hes a 58th pick. at best hes big baby davis. while he could be eddy curry at worst.

:o Eddy Curry was a top pick. And he had solid (maybe not good enough for where he was drafted, but solid) numbers for a while. If this guy puts the numbers Curry put up as a 58th overall pick, this pick is the first steal of the decade. (And that's far better than Glen Davis)

i'm telling you guys that caracter is good, and has good potential....he has good offensive footwork and excellent low post skills, he plays with a chip on his shoulder and is a relentless defender and rebounder.....he's good guys.....just watch and i guarantee he's gonna give alot of power forwards problems in summer camp, and he will probably be one of the steals of draft night....we should keep him, he has an nba low post skill set and would be a great offensive rebounder for us....he was a lottery pick until he messed up at lousiville that's the only reason he was the 58th pick you guys will see when he steps foot on the court, mark my words....

Watch him in summer league. That will be the only time he is in a laker uniform. Long shot to make camp.

Thanks for the info Pop. And thanks Aki. These two have to make the team! With our starting five, we can definitely win with Ariza 2.0 and Blair 2.0, we just have to add a veteran combo guard with a deadly 3pt shot. Gosh we need some athleticism. with Shannon and Farmar likely gone, i just cant see us adding the likes of Mike miller (much needed shooter) to a bench of Lamar and Luke. that would be the worst athletic bench in the league.

When he was announced as your selection right away I suspected it was a counter to our selection of Pittman.

Question: Where in the draft was Blair picked? and how high was this guy projected before his stock fell?

Blair was projected lottery if it weren't for his questionable medical history. He was picked 37th, had better work ethic, a better college career, played against more difficult opponents and was a better rebounder/athlete. He played in the Big East grabbing 12+boards and scoring 14 a game in a conference that is known for its banging big men and solid D... Caracter is from Conference USA - he should have been beasting those weak bigs there, not grabbing only 8 boards a game and scoring 13.

Caracter is also 1 year older than Blair is now. (Blair is 21, Caracter is 22) - Blair's stats were as a Sophomore. Caracter as a Sophomore also played in the big east for Louisville and averaged 8 points and 4.5 rebounds. He did red shirt in his transfer year to UTEP, but as I said - 13 and 8 as a senior in Conference USA? Come on.

I'm not saying he can't be good, but he has a LOT of work ahead of him and has to learn to be coachable. If he can succeed anywhere in the NBA - the Lakers (or maybe Boston) would be it.

Also if you look up any articles about Blair while he was at Pitt, he was a celebrity on campus and in the city. I met the guy and talked to him for 5 minutes and at the end he acted as if we were best friends. He volunteered and helped lead a community program for the sports at Pitt.

Caracter seems to be the opposite of that.

Caracter's coach and teammates at utep loved him.....they say he underwent a much needed change in his work ethic and attitude, he lost a ton of weight in a short amount of time and his rededicated himself to the game....i know we wont sign him, but my guess will be that we wish we did when he starts beasting in denver....i stand by my words....he will be good....

2 years at UTEP isn't short, 4 years in the NCAA is long.

It will be interesting to see how he does in Summer League.

If we continue to run the triangle, I think he (and Ebanks) will be slow to develop. If there is a coaching change and the Lakers go more to a motion offense with some pick and rolls and also run the offense from the post in the low block, I think these kids could contribute more quickly.

The triangle is more intricate and will take them longer to pick up.

Regardless, nice picks.

The triangle offense is a motion offense.

Interesting. He's certainly a position of need between Powell and Mbenga looking to leave, but my guess is unless he still has major upside we'd prefer some guy from the D league that put in time and had a little savvy to play spot minutes immediately.

well sure the offer wasn't mind blowing but if Mitch thinks otherwise, maybe we get lucky and found ourselves a Glen Davis type fatty  , honestly for such a wide load, Davis actually seems alot faster then Odom.
