Off-Topic! All-Draft Teams 2003 vs 1996

Post#1 » by BeleiveInGosh » Mon Jun 28, 2010 10:17 pm

So, in the boredom with the anticipation of July 1st, and the consequent onset of my irritable bowel every time Steven A. Smith talks about Bosh, LBJ and Dwade in Miami...I got thinking, and I want to hear what you kids think too...

Seven game series, with each player at his maximally best, at a neutral site...

2003 Draft Class versus 1996 Draft Class

1996
PG: Steve Nash
SG: Allen Iverson
SF: Kobe Bryant
PF: Jermaine O'neal
C: Marcus Camby

First Three off Bench
Ray Allen
Shareef Abdur Rahim
Stephon Marbury

2003
PG: Dwyane Wade
SG: Lebron James
SF: Carmelo Anthony
PF: Chris Bosh
C: Chris Kaman

First Three off the Bench
Kirk Hinrich
David West
Leandro Barbosa

Let me hear it, and tell me why!

And there is a reason Stephen A is banned from ESPN and any news outlet that matters.

Suspending reality for a quick second, it would make a lot of sense for the 96 team to move Iverson to the bench as a high scoring 6th man and slot Allen into the starting 5. Iverson needs the ball to be effective and in a lineup with Nash and Kobe, he wouldn't handle the ball nearly enough. Allen's shooting would fit into the 96 starting 5 perfectly. Don't forget the 96 team also has Ben Wallace as a strong defender off the bench, more shooting from Stojakovic and the clutchness/professionalism of Fisher. 96 DESTROYS 03. That is all.

Peja or Z over Shareef and I'll take '96 by a hair.
Thank you, Phil.

+1

I was worried when seeing how that team would play together with AI in the starting lineup. I felt the 03 team would play together more, but having AI come off the bench solves that issue and 96 is the better team on "D". Dont know about them DESTROYING 03 though.

wade/bosh/lebron are to ball dominate.....96 team seems more balanced.

there have countless times this question has been asked in the PC board.

96 always seems to win because they play fantastic D and will function as a proper team

Undrafted. Signed as a rookie free agent by Washington in 1996.

Forget 96 or 03 how about 84
PG. John Stockton
SG. MJ
SF. Sam Pekins
PF. Barkley
C. Hakeem
Bench
Otis Thope
Jerome Kersey
Kevin Willis
Now thats a defensive and tough team.

But if you guys dont include 84 you got to go with 96 there are 3 guaranteed Hall of Famers there Kobe, A.I., and Nash. And 1 that will get some serious consideration Allen. In 03 I can only see Lebron, and Wade going to the Hall of Fame and maybe Carmelo.

Here is another stat to look when people compare the 84, 96, and 03 draft classes
NBA MVP, Finals MVP, All-Star MVP, NBA 1st team, NBA Defensive Player of the year
84, 7 8 5 22 3
96, 4 2 5 14 0
03, 2 1 3 11 0
I really dont think 96 or 03 will pass 84 in NBA and Finals MVP but they pass them in the All-star MVP. Maybe they'll pass 84 in 1st team selections. And finally only Lebron has a chance to win defensive player of the year and I dont think he'll win it more than once. But in conclusion these three classes are probably the three greatest draft classes ever in NBA history. They for sure are the greatest in the modern NBA 1979-present. I don't know about 1947-1979.

But only KB24 would play defense on the perimeter!
