Kobe: The Road

Slam Online Q&A

While many members of the famed ’96 Draft Class are shells of their former selves, Kobe Bryant is still in his prime.

Good read man. That part about the 96 draft class just makes me appreciate what Kobe has done for the Lakers for all these seasons. AI and Marbury have fallen off. Big Z and Jermaine O'Neal's careers ruined by injuries. Ray Allen and Nash are the two other big names that are still going strong. Ray Ray has it easy as a shooter but his decline is noticeable. Steve Nash has outlasted age and it makes you think if hes been able to play at such an amazing level at this stage of his career then how long could Kobe go for. Then again the NBA isn't about age but more about mileage.

^ Great point about mileage being more important than age in the NBA. I would love to see a comparison of minutes and games played between the '96 Draft class. The fact that his guy can perform at a high level despite the numerous injuries and uncountable games is a true testament to his work ethic and dedication.

One of the reason's Kobe is the player I have the most respect for. He may not be the most talented or skilled but he is by far the hardest worker and no matter what happens that can never be taken from him.
Thank you, Phil.

Always good to look back 5 to 10 years after Draft's to realize how wrong we all were. About 8 of the 19 are still in the league. Fish is the only not pictured from the rest of that draft, still playing in the NBA.

Shows that the right work and diet and training can take you to places most do not want to put the work into to get there.
