greatest drafts
It is true that the greatest draft of all time would be 1984 with Jordan, Olajuwon, Barkley and Stockton and most people agree that the 2003 with LeBron, Wade, Bosh, Carmelo is up there right behind but the 96 draft was great. There are three active 20,000 point scorers Kobe, Iverson and Ray Allen. Althought there are no bigs in that draft and guys like Camby are average players Kobe will go down as a top 5 talent and Iverson and Allen are two of the greatest scorers in history. What do you guys think!

Re: greatest drafts
We'll have to wait another 20 years to truly know the results. The 84 class just finally died out with in the last 2 or 3 seasons and this 2003 draft may go down in value due to the Tripartite joining forces.
The 90s as a decade may go down as one of the greatest ever for producing talent (Kobe, Iverson, Shaq, Ray, Garnett, Pierce, Carter, McGrady, Duncan, Payton, Zo, Kidd, Nash, Sheed, JO, Dirk, Marion, Artest, Brand...

eh, its just that the athletes are getting better in general, not necessarily becoming better basketball "talent" players...marion, carter, mcgrady? really? can they jump out of the gym- yes. do the have basketball talent compared to all time greats, not so much. you really have JO and brand on there too?
i would even argue that shaqs dominance isn't so much a result of him being a great basketball talent as much as him just being a freak of nature who could 360 dunk at 7 feet 300 lbs in his prime. kind of like lebron, just freak athletes.
nba players will continue to get bigger faster and stronger for every single decade to come, it wasnt just the 90's (see cp3, bron, durant, and to an unproven degree griffen and wall)

Re: greatest drafts
Tough to judge in different basketball eras. The Jordan/Hakeem/Barkley/Bowie (oops) draft was a lot of great talent that starting cornerstones for certain franchises in a time where most people stuck with their team for the most part. The 1996 draft was a lot of talent spread out over the entire draft that helped stockpile overall talent into the NBA and bring different types of people in. Top to bottom, amazing talent level. The 2003 brought back some great talents concentrated into a few major players with others chipping in. Different era = different importance/impact. The Jordan draft infused some talent and setup some teams that would be very successful in the 90s (Bulls/Rockets/Jazz/Suns/etc) and build on the momentum on Showtime to start getting some solidity. The knicks would be Ewing, Bulls, Jordan, and so on. By the 1996 draft, free agency was starting to get away and the 1996 draft was a way to even out the playing field by adding so much talent on so many teams starting solid years for Iverson's sixers/Marbury's (and KG obv) WOlves, Kobe's lakers and raised the parity. 2003 got back to the 1 man 1 team...which made LBJ/Wade/Melo/Bosh synonymous with their respective teams until this summer....
thats my long way of saying its rough to say which is the best draft and it also depends on what you are rating in on. NBA impact would be Magic's draft. Showtime elevated NBA basketball and then Jordan took it to another level, making his draft important but concentrated...total talent probably belongs to 1996 and impact belongs to the two MJs...but in 20 years, we might look back at it differently.

Re: greatest drafts
well lets look at the team vs. team
2003 1996 1984
sf Carmelo Ray Allen Charles Barkley
PF Chris Bosh Kobe Bryant Sam Perkins
C Chris Kaman Marcus Camby Hakeem Olajuwon
SG Dwayne Wade Allen Iverson Michael Jordan
PG LeBron James Steve Nash John Stockton
I know the 96 team is all guards but three of them have scored 20,000 plus points and one is a two time MVP. 84 also has three 20,000 point scorers with one 30,000 (Kobe will probably get there as well) and two 12,000 plus rebounds, 8 championships, 7 MVP's 8 finals mvp's 15,000 assists man and depth wise has the most. Remember Kevin Willis and Otis Thorpe have over 10,000 rebounds. But I think that 2003 has two all time greats and two greats in their era. 96 has the best group of Guards in league history. but 1984 had Jordan and Olajuwon with barkley and Stockton, They are all top five at their position in history. Amazing draft!

84.
Jordan>Bryant and James
Olajuwon> Wade and Iverson

Stockton>Bosh and Nash
Kaman and Camby are comparable to Perkins.
