Portland by far. That was easily one of my 3 or 4 favorite games of the past decade.

That Boston game was a sh**fest. From a fans perspective, it wasn't even very entertaining.

Was that the same game Scottie Pippen assulted the towels in the hallway or am I thinking of another series?

Remember when he did that? It was like watching WWE!

Beating Boston is always great but I felt like we were the better team this year and should of won it and it was our 3rd straight finals appearance. The Portland game was a game I was not sure we were the better team at the time and it was the first year of a dynasty. That Portland game defined the Shaq/Kobe era.

As crazy as it sounds and is, for some reason, the Portland game stirs more emotions in me than beating Boston. WTF has happened to me?????

Portland.

Lakers didn't really have a "comeback" against Boston. Both teams just played crappy.

Portland for me. By halftime I thought it was hopeless... it was nothing short of miraculous comeback.

Also Portland was never the same after that loss.

Pippen lost it that game and that made me very happy because I think he's over-rated...

But for anybody who's been a hard-core laker fan since the early 80s, beating Boston in the finals will always be the sweetest victory...

Especially in game 7...
Especially against Pierce, KG, Allen, Rondo, Baby, Wallace, Nate...
Especially after '08...

I thought we were the better team against Portland too... So did Portland... We won. I never really doubted that one, even with the big Portland lead.

But I thought Boston game 7 was anybody's game and could have turned into a blow-out at any point. I never felt comfortable.

Also, I hate Portland almost as much as Boston but I respect Boston more... I discount Portland... I hate them so much I think their every win is a fluke. They get no respect from me and I think every time we face them we are supposed to win. So victories are a given and losses are about us failing.

A win over Portland isn't very sweet because to me, it was decided when the schedule was announced.

Even though it might have been the ugliest game in Finals history Big Game?

i dont think that game was ugly. the defense was so intense the whole game. game 7 against boston was easily better

+1
I don't understand people calling that game ugly. it was a thing of beauty from a defensive perspective. the fact that nobody other than Garnett had decent stats really says a lot about both defenses throughout the entire game.

It's Boston, down big, 08 revenge, game 7 failures, Pierce's mouth, Garnett's obnxious posturing, Doc avenging Auerbach again.

But, one thing haunts me.

If LA doesn't pull off the Portland come back, it's a possibility the 2000 dynasty doesn't happen. Portland most likely becomes "the Team". Kings are hot on the trail. Spurs are title contenders. Maybe the disappointment leads to more seasons of promise followed by let downs like the late 90s.
The Portland game 7 IGNITED the Lakers, they City, and ensured the return to glory.

If LA loses the Boston game, it's a disappointment, but there's still 4 titles and 6 finals appearances in the decade.
If LA loses the Portland game, there's nothing.

But a second thing haunts me.
It was a freaking FINALS GAME 7! The ultimate!

Just cannot decide. May have to go with 88 game 7 :)

Lakers were down by 15 in the fourth quarter...I was having a heart attack in the 4th quarter of that Portland game  It was 15 right? I forgot.

I think ur right Bshaw hit a buzzer beater 3 to bring it down to 15 to start the 4th. If my memory serves me right.

Portland. The team just "got it" and put something together that could have scared the league for years had it continued to develop.

Anyone saying they enjoyed the Lakers being down by 15 pts in the 4th quarter is lying to themselves.

Another reason to love the Boston game/series is for the first time in recent years, the Lakers became a real intimidating defensive team during the series and especially in game 7. Which is something we've all been dreaming about for years. We were tough as nails that series... Against Portland, we were a dominant team that came in against an inferior one and played down to the competition. Which has been our Achilles heal since then too.

Both were kind of ugly games but Portland was a comeback that should have never been necessary... I was happy/relieved we won, but I didn't think we proved anything...

We proved something against Boston.

I think you are too young, Portland was picked by most of the experts because they were deeper.

Dude, I wish!

I don't remember anyone picking Portland but Utah gets picked to beat us each year too... The 'experts' were clearly picking against the favorite... Calling upset generates a lot of press...

Shaq was scary that year, probably his best/most dominant season... It was his best statistically... He averaged 30, 14, 4 and 3 for the season that year, and 31, 15, and 3 in the post season...
Kobe was on fire (23pts 5ast) and was clicking well with Shaq, the supporting cast was solid... If we played to our potential there wasn't anyone that could beat us.

We decided before the season started that nobody was going to stop us and we only faltered a bit in the playoffs... It was a classic Phil Jackson coached team being asked to figure it out, faltering a bit, but then getting it.

Anybody picking against us that year was deluded... The only way we were going to loose was if we forgot how to play together with purpose... Which we did for a while.
