There arent as many towns in the West #1, major cities: San Diego, LA, SF, Seattle, Portland vs 20 major cities on the East Coast.

Tons of ball players out of LA.
Lakers are 22-3 in OT last 6 seasons:Kobe best OT closer!

Were you playing in the 13 and under age group? and you were just able to hold your own? LOL makes plenty of sense. Whats so funny about 13 year olds trying to make the NBA? I love motivation in our youth.

First of all I am not an NYC hater, I love New York. I have a lot friends who are from there and still reside there I visit as much as I can. Never been to Ruckers although I have seen it on TV. I know the history of the place I know the history of NYC Public School Bball legends. I can't escape it when I am there on visits. My friends talk of it all the time.

Like I said there are GOOD players in NYC but most are overly hyped anybody remember Sebastian Telfair http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0457502/. Really, like where is this kid now?

I've seen the courts of Venice, Compton, Glendale and I would say they are comparable to those courts of NYC. However, I have seen the courts of Louisville, Birmingham, Dallas, San Antonio, Chicago and St. Louis. Those midwest courts get over looked and I must say the the playground ball I have seen on those midwestern and southern courts are some of the best I have seen. Mostly these guys played college or maybe they would have played if their grades were right or if they hadn't got that one felony. Maybe dad wants them to run the farm or be doctor instead. Who knows but you can't discount those players from the midwest, places in between, the fly over states as some L.A. peeps like to call them. They make up the majority of the players who fill out the rest of the NBA rosters.

West Coast PG rule... Sorry NYC and we count Steve Nash he could technically be called a mid-westerner but hey he played for Santa Clara how West Coast can you get jeesh!

lol Yo Cali has 0 money. Stop frontin like you dont know that Cali is going downhill. Stop acting like you don't know that your Govenor made state workers with degrees go down to minimum wage. That shure didn't happen in NYC, so b e z. Second Deep you may have played garbage NYC Players but in reality what MichaelJames said is very true. Most of the nasty ball players are from the East. NYC breeds toughness, that's why everyone says their good. I played in Cali myself and they are soft there. Oakland and certian areas of LA they do go hard on the court, but on average they play softter than NYC. My homeboywent to school in Washington and is tough and nasty but he is originally from the East Coast. Now football players come out of the West alot and the South more than NYC.

I could give a damn what region it was. And I would pump the brakes on the "west breeds soft guys"........you do know Bill Laimbeer was a west coast product right ? He was nasty as they come. And Dennis Johnson wasn't soft either.....straight from the streets of Compton my man, I seriously doubt most of the guys you named saw half the sh*t he saw growing up in the hood. Trust me MJ it's some soft ass cats from the east coast too.

He's right about one thing... Paul Pierce is SOFT as hell...

Yo yo, I don't think you're aware that Schwarzenegger's plan for minimum wage failed. The State Controller spiked his attempt out of bounds.

First, he made government workers work for the minimum for a week or so because there are government workers making $800k a year with a 1.5M pension (Bell Ca, look it up)... They can't be fired.

When's the last time you been to the West? Portland, Seattle, San Jose, LA/OC... The money's still there, bro...

I say if you want to think the West is soft, fine... Whatever fluffs your ego...

But unless you're one of those guys you mentioned... Bird, Magic, etc... You're opinion means exactly, squat...

Last time I looked California makes up about 1/5 or more of the US national production more than New York or any other state. Meaning that where California goes so goes the country...

In the 90's the dot com boom started and ended in California. The housing boom of the 2000's started and will most likely end in California. The economic turn around will most likely start in So Cal.

New York will continue being New York they don't make anything in Tribecca. They just trade money and property.

And in terms of toughness, football players > basketball players. Looks like the East isn't tougher than the West after all.

THEY LEFT NEW YORK BECAUSE IT SUCKED, just like millions upon millions have done. to me its like vegas, its a nice place to visit, but after 3 or 4 days you get tired of all the people who act and talk exactly how this fool does.

I've lived in LA, Baltimore, New York, Philly and Toronto, and having balled in all those cities, just a few observations:

1) The average New Yorker does not know that much about basketball. At least, not in Manhattan. There are true fans, sure, but there are more intense fans and ballers out in Queens and the Bronx. Granted, my experience is also from the past 10 yrs i spent in NY, so maybe it's just because the Knicks have been in such a hellhole in that time.

2) Maryland ballers are tough, physical mo-fos. These dudes enjoy contact, and are ready to throw down. Same experience in a number of courts.

3) Philly (suburbs) - not too different from LA. I don't know about ghetto Philly, though. I'm sure it's different there.

Overall, I would say that East coast ballers are a little more physical or obsessed with the And1 playing style (tend to be pretty damn selfish with the ball). West coast ball is more style with substance (sound, smart ball).

Again, my humble observations.

so basically you are saying that people on the west coast play like the lakers and people on the east coast play like the wizards/knicks....i concur

arguing toughness is pretty stupid and isnt directly correlated to which coast one grows up in.

also, i think that new york is known as a basketball city because we are intensely passionate about the sport. our teams suck, but we support the hell out of them no matter what. the lakers have their group of passionate fans, but they're often overshadowed by the glamour of hollywood.

edit: also don't forget lamar and artest are part of your beloved lakers 8-) . both NYC products

Lamar being of ave "toughness", proving that just because your from NY doesn't automatically make you tough.
