before the season starts:

deron williams
chris paul
steve nash
tony parker (I can't believe I'm the first in this thread to actually type his name, that's crazy)
rajon rondo
derrick rose

granted during the season... parker and nash may very well be overtaken, but both seriously would tear the heart out of defenses as boston's point guard, which rondo did not really do. I mean he was unreal in many games, but he also was a liability for their spacing. nash on that team? just wow...

Parker is not a shooter, and he also happens to be Rondo's chew toy.

Nash is a better offensive player than Rondo. He is also an very bad defensive player. The question is: "Is nash's offensive edge greater than Rondo's defensive edge?" I think not. Boston's team identity is that of a defensive team, and Rondo is the best defender at his position. There is also the VERY important fact that outside of Rondo, the Celtics are really an old and unathletic team. He is the guy who prevents them from being run out of the gym by the quicker teams. Is Nash going to do that? Nope.

if nash was on the celtics instead of rondo, there is no way we could have left him WIDE OPEN the way we did rondo. and the celtics would have won the series.

Optms wrote:Deron Williams - Production and consistency. He really impressed me this season, and I love his style of game above all others personally.

Steve Nash - Gets underrated somewhat. He is the definition of making your team and teammates better. Good enough to lead the Suns all the way to the WCF, and push LA to 6 games. How many other point guards get dubbed for having the "Steve Nash effect"?

Chris Paul - Maybe the biggest talent but is no where near as reliable from season to season as the two above. Durability matters.

Rajon Rondo - Has all you probably want in a point guard. Come playoff time, he impresses everyone. 'Cept against us. Rolf.

Derrick Rose - I put him below Rondo for now. Will probably catapult over RR by next season. Isn't inept at scoring, very athletic, can get into the lanes and comes equipped with a respectable jump shot. Glad he plays in the east.

my top 5 as well, though this will definately change this season, Chris Paul will be beasti'n, bet on it.

i was thinking of the 4 PGs that led the conference finals for their respective teams.

Fisher-Nash for the West

Nelson-Rondo for the East

we know Fish is already old but he still delivers but compared to the 5 above mentioned, DFish is nowhere near their offensive skills. Jameer on the other hand does not possess the quality passing the 5 gives their respective teams. plus he does not have the D, IMO.
