top 6 hated athletes in America

Post#1 » by makaveli_99 » Tue Sep 14, 2010 9:52 pm

James now ranks as the sixth most-hated athlete in America, behind only Michael Vick, Tiger Woods, the Cincinnati Bengals receiving duo of Terrell Owens and Chad Ochocinco, and Kobe Bryant.

... i don't understand why Kobe is hated this much? I mean, his trial was so long ago and he's been great ever since. The lakers are my favourite team and of course kobe is my favourite player, and I just don't get why kobe being hated is still the case.

The only reason I can think of is that he keeps winning the NBA title and so people hate him for that... LOL... but seriously.. wow

I suppose it's what questions they're asking on these surveys. A poll a few months ago has Woods and Kobe as the most popular athletes in the America http://outofbounds.nbcsports.com/2010/0 ... r.html.php

Kobe used to be the most hated NBA player in the world until Lebron's Look at Me one Hour Special on ESPN a couple months ago.

I seriously feel Lebron thinks he is bigger than Basketball especially after that stunt. SMH.

Kali. I agree totally with your thoughts on Lebron. And after seeing Durant portray himself as such a likable guy this summer, it makes me think even less of James.

It also depends on where they asked this question. Was it in a NBA site, or a sports site or in some common place where non fans might be filling out the survey. This kind of survey taken in a city like Boston would of course be against Kobe or the Lakers.

If it is just a few thousand surveyed, then it is open for big changes. A million votes, then you got a pretty good list.

I don't know guys....

I'm pretty sure a lot of this board "hated" LeBron before the special. It had nothing to do with it, it had to do with the fact that because of his talent and media-hype we as a fan base naturally felt threatened by James' since he's threatened to take over Kobe's spot at the top (many would say that's already happened).

It's probably how a lot of guys who were Jordan fans hated Kobe and then moved on to support LeBron, just as (I get the vibe) Durant isn't as threatening to Kobe and is even liked, because we wish to see him beat LBJ....IDK if any of you have noticed, but Lakers fans are very sensitive about Kobe.

It's just basic fans stuff. We love our guy and the rest hate him for being great. They find lame ways to justify their hate by going into old personal stuff or making it so he can never when in terms of when to score and when to pass. They want 81 point games and they want him to be less selfish. It's nuts and it's because of their old loyalties. They were probably Jordan fans.

Pretty much it's that game where you catch a baseball bat and start putting one had over the other and the winners the one who puts it on the top. Only there'll never be a winner in this game. It's just a continuum of great players...it'll keep on going (hopefully) forever.

Let's not worry if people hate Kobe. And let's not cheerlead hating on LeBron.

It makes us look petty.

Seriously.. and no mention of those steroid abusers in the major leagues? Barry Bonds? A-Rod? This is just borderline racist and ridiculous.

I get what you mean in terms of the sports, baseball vs basketball and I could see that public perception of basketball overall is tainted by race...but isn't Barry Bonds black? And A-Rod is of Dominican descent.

I was referring more to the fan base. NBA caters more to the african american section while baseball is thre more white supported game. Which I think is the only reason those ass holes are still making money off professional contracts after admitting to doping offenses.

How in the world is A-Rod not on the list? That cheater of the game not only rubs most the wrong way with his fake personality, but he plays for the Yankees under a contract thats set to pay a quarter of a billion.

And the majority of NY fans and their press are lying to themselves. They pretend to love him, because he's under pin-stripes, but its all fake. March to 600 HR's was tainted from the beginning, yet they clapped away like a bunch of pigeon idiots knowing he was one of the many cheaters of the sport. Dumb list.

They're talking about the list on ESPN First Take. LBJ fell 41% as far as ratings go.

Just throwing this out there...

The country is pretty much ignorant to sports stars. Unless you're Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods or Tom Brady, the US media ignores you unless you're doing something wrong. Hence Michael Vick, Terrell Owens and Chad Ochocinco being on the list. And Tiger as well. The last time Kobe was truly in the national spotlight both on and off the court was when he committed infidelity and was accused of rape. That sticks in the heads of the public.

On the other hand, he is hated by sports fans for the same reason sports fans hate Owens, Ochocinco and Tiger - he's good. In fact he's like Tiger in the sense that he is the best at what he does.
