OT - Doping and Contador

Post#1 » by lakersfanatic » Thu Sep 30, 2010 2:22 pm

I know this is way off topic but thought i would field you guys on this doping topic in Cycling. Just something to talk about before preseason starts.. hehehe. I'm an avid cyclist and bike before playing bball.

Long story short - He's won 3 tour de frances and many others.... yet they've tested small amounts of Clenbuterol in his urine... (any amount is forbidden). So now another great cyclist has been suspended for further review. Contador immediately said that it has to be tainted meat he ate during that time....

Base on the stories we've heard about doping in all sports and the likelihood that they're all guilty of use.... What do you guys think... is he speaking the truth...?

Personally, I think an event like the Tour De France, raced at the speeds and times they're doing now, would likely kill most of the riders if they weren't on something.

I think if you went back in time and cleanly tested the piss/blood (with no chance of tampering) of all the cyclists that raced the Tour, you'd have to go back pretty far before you found that the majority of them weren't on something to make the race easier to complete. It really is an incredible physical feat.

Personally, I think until they can catch everything with a single test and get the results of their tests within an hour or so before the start of the race, and an hour or so after a stage, they should just let them do what they do... Once the technology improves, then they can simply draw a line in the sand and say, if you're not clean, you don't race. Until then, all this retroactive punishment is just depressing. It sucks the joy out of the sport. Sure it's the athelete's fault, but there's always the air of vindictiveness around the testing and the press. It just a bunch of finger-pointing that sounds like a bunch of crying girls and it's hard to be a fan with it going on.

YAY, so-and-so won the Tour! (Six months later...) **** they were on something!
Who wants to root for something so fundamentally flawed.

I just like to take the family out on bike rides. No drama, just time together and having fun. To many sports or things to do are now all about money. I take the boys out back and shoot hoops, to the park to play ball, kick the soccer ball. What out door activities should really be about. Not all about money.

lol beta-3-adrenergic-agonists aren't even clinically proven to reduce weight in humans

doesn't stop idiots from trying to however, (nor big pharmaceutical companies from trying to find a blockbuster drug)

and lol tainted meat. yeh, im sure someone must have added that to his food to screw him
