Pretty sure the topic wasn't made to compare body types

Ariza's body type is essentially what dictates his playing style and I find body type to be a very important distinction between Ariza and Brown's playing styles.

I also didn't read the thread once I saw that the initial post link came from a guys blog, so I'm honestly not sure what the current discussion is about.

If this thread is strictly about him leaving or not like Ariza did - I see us offering most of the MLE if he plays this well and that's the highest we'll go, not sure who his agent is, but if he didn't get more money this summer - I don't see us over paying next summer either.

the man wants a home. he plays hard. hes loving LA. he wants to stay here and be here LONG TERM. and he is earning that right to do so. at this pace he will be the eventual starter. speed. athleticism. shooting ability. defensive quickness. and of course we all know he has the dunking power.

Brown already is.

How can we afford to keep him. He's worth 6 mil. Maybe if the Lakers let Sasha expire & every team gets a 1 time cut (Luke) Allen Houston rule

Shannon's already twice the player Ariza is. He still hasn't reached his potential while Ariza is more of the same.

I'd still have Ariza over Shannon if given the choice actually. Despite Shannon's hot start, I'm still not quite convinced he could keep it up for the whole season and especially in the playoffs

Ariza didn't leave for more money, he left for the same money, making it an even bigger blow to him. Even if shannon leaves it would be because we offered him less than other teams, so I doubt it will be arepeat of ariza who left despite being offered the same elsewhere.

Someone answer me this: By the end of this season, won't the Lakers have Brown's bird rights? If so, then none of this talk is really necessary for him. They can match his offerings. But for Barnes, if he stays a keeper, he'll want a contract and it's Ebanks who is in the seat to take over for him if he leaves (or Luke, but you all wouldn't want that now would you).

Barnes wants longevity on his contract, something like the Raja Bell 3yr/3mil deal. For his entire career, Matt has only got paid 3 mil once and rest are 1-1.5 mil a year deals.

Opting out of options negates them, I believe. Also - no one has a clue of what the new CBA will look like.

I would make a trade or release Sasha or Walton so fast to keep Brown in LA for a long time. He is young and getting better all the time. He might be the player to step into Kobe's shoes one day.

Lakers are winning championships, but they need to realize that they are getting older all the time and young players need to be held onto.

The Lakers are trying to win a title now, but 3 years later? 4? First, I don't have a good feeling about giving Shannon a 5 year MLE deal, it reminds me of how we extended Luke just because he played well for a short stretch, and Shannon seem like the streaky player that will play hot one game and cold the very next. He's not reliable enough to be locked to a long term contract. Second, you might not want to believe it, but Kobe is already on a sharp decline, he will still make the ASG this year, but is there any assurance he can play like an allstar the next two years? It would be nice if he has Kareem-like lonegvity, but if you want to be realistic, it's most likely not going to happen. By the time we need more cap flexibility we're stuck with Shannon's ~6-7 mil on the payroll, and he might not be worth that much at that point because his game depends a lot on athleticism.

Teams still has a player's bird rights after he opts out. The team only loses that bird rights when the FA officially signs with another team or if the team renounces the player, basically giving up the bird rights for more caproom.

Amazed that Brown isn't competitive enough to want the challenge of being a starter on a potential championship team. He doesn't seem the type to take the easy route.

if my mentors are Phil Jackson and Kobe Bryant, I wouldn't be leaving as well. With the way he's playing now, I think it says more than being a starter in other teams, I mean, producing this much and he's coming off the bench. I think it's more of the chance of being taught by the arguably the best player of this generation that made Brown stay (and the chance for the championship, of course).

Agree Shannon Brown is the next Shannon Brown, but do you think...

SHANNON BROWN IS THE NEXT FACE OF THE LAKERS ORGANIZATION? :o

it's still a long way there but he seems to be the successor to Kobe IMO. if not you can just give me a :banghead: .

that was really subtle.

man, why did I even say that. Every time I watch the team and Kobe's beastin' I'm like: "Man, there's no stopping the Mamba... I don't see him retiring..." and my face starts to :( and realizing eventually it'll happen. Then Brown comes in to sub for Kobe and Kobe gives Shannon a few pointers before rushing in the court then I'll think: "That could be Kobe's guy, the one he passes the torch to..." then I'll follow that up with an image of Brown holding an MVP and a championship trophy and as I look down I see the number "24" on his chest.

I can't imagine the franchise without Kobe. sucks. :(

I don't see Shannon leaving. The guy was bounced around the league and D-league and finally found a home in LA where he is very well liked and has won TWO championships in his two years here.

LA fell in love with Shannon (I remember the monster block that was ruled a foul but had the whole Staples Center about to explode), and Shannon fell in love with LA. I think he's received the most love here. We even got him attention for the dunk contest.

And have you seen a Shannon Brown signing in LA? Hot chicks everywhere. I hope he doesn't leave.

Let's start a campaign.. "LetShannonShoot" for him to join the All-Star Weekend's 3-pt shooting contest. It seems that he just couldn't miss any 3-pointers these days :D
